The authors report a patient with nevus of Ota (oculodermal melanocytosis) who presented with pigmented epithelioid melanocytoma in the right orbit. A 36-year-old female patient attended with proptosis OD and diplopia for 3 months. MRI disclosed an expansive lesion adhered to the right inferior rectus muscle, enlargement of the superior orbital fissure, and filling of the right cavernous sinus. Excision of the orbital mass through a transconjunctival inferior fornix access disclosed a heavily pigmented lesion. Anatomopathological study revealed a diagnosis of pigmented epithelioid melanocytoma…

Basal Cell Nevus Syndrome (BCNS) is an autosomal dominant inherited disease caused by PTCH1 (9q22.3-q31) germline mutations. Skin manifestations are mainly characterized by hyperkeratosis of the palms and soles, palmoplantar pits and a strong predisposition to develop multiple basal cell carcinomas (BCCs). Recently, it has been hypothesized that basaloid follicular hamartomas (BFH) could be included in BCNS skin features. We present three pediatric cases of GS with BCCs and BFHs. Clinical, dermoscopic and immunohistochemical tools are reported.

Cutis verticis gyrata (CVG) is characterized by extensive formation of scalp skin that mirrors the folds of the cerebral gyri. Giant CVG secondary to cerebriform intradermal nevus (CIN) has been rarely reported, and its management mainly involves surgical excision. In certain cases of giant CVG, however, surgical excision is dilemmatic. This case report describes a giant CVG secondary to CIN that was successfully managed with scalp expansion and surgical excision. Previously published studies are also reviewed.

Inflammatory linear verrucous epidermal nevus (ILVEN) is a rare cutaneous disease that presents as linear psoriasiform plaques with associated prominent pruritus. The lesions commonly pre-sent on the legs with onset during childhood. Inflammatory linear verrucous epidermal nevus typically is refractory to treatment. Therapies range from topical treatments to lasers and surgical options. It is clinically and histopathologically similar to psoriasis, suggesting it may respond to established psoriasis treatments such as the excimer laser. We report the case of an otherwise healthy 20-year-old wom…

Linear nevus sebaceous syndrome (LNSS) is characterized by nevus sebaceous, mental retardation, seizures, and ocular abnormalities such as complex limbal choistoma. A young male with history of mass in right eye and blackish discoloration of skin over right and left side of forehead since birth presented with foreign body sensation and diminished vision in right eye. Ocular examination showed mass over epibulbar region with chorioretinal coloboma and posterior staphyloma in right eye and megalocornea in left eye. Histopathology report revealed complex limbal choristoma with compound melanocyti…

BACKGROUND: Linear nevus sebaceous syndrome (LNSS) is a multisystem disorder that includes nevus sebaceous and central nervous system, ocular and skeletal anomalies. We report the first case of a KRAS G12D mosaic mutation in a patient diagnosed with LNSS.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 3-month-old female with a clinical diagnosis of LNSS presented with intermittent epilepsy. Her mother carefully collected a skin lesion sample from scratched-off scurf obtained from the patient's nails. DNA was extracted, and long-range PCR was performed to amplify the KRAS gene, which was then analyzed by next-generatio…

Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome (BRBNS) is an uncommon congenital disorder characterized by sporadic venous malformation which mainly occurs in skin and alimentary canal. Here, we report a BRBNS patient with concomitant intestinal intussusception who diagnosed by intraoperative endoscopy and ultimately managed using surgical resection. A 19-year-old boy was referred to urgent surgery for acute melena and stomachache. He had used to be a long-term iron user for undiagnosed chronic anemia and papules. Abdominal CT on admission demonstrated the presence of intestinal intussusception. The followin…

Nevus depigmentosus is a congenital hypomelanotic condition for which no effective treatments are available. The hypopigmentation is permanent and enlarges in proportion with growth in the person. Here, I report a patient of nevus depigmentosus on whom we performed suction blister grafting and the resultant pigmentation was satisfactory even at a follow-up after 10 years.

BACKGROUND: Nevus of Ota, caused by dermal melanocytosis, is cosmetically troublesome in Asian patients. The destruction of dermal melanocytosis using Q-switched laser systems carries a high risk of postinflammatory hyperpigmentation/hypopigmentation.
METHODS: To determine the usefulness, safety, and adverse problems of low fluence 1064 nm Q-switched Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of nevus of Ota, 19 Korean patients (five male and 14 female; Fitzpatrick skin type IV) who were clinically diagnosed as having nevus of Ota were enrolled in the present study. Low fluence laser treatments were perfo…

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare vascular disorder characterized by multiple venous malformations (VMs) of the skin, gastrointestinal tract, and other organs. To date, several cases of sporadic BRBNS involving various parts of the pregnant woman's body have been reported; however, BRBNS in pregnancy with spinal epidural involvement has not been reported. Here, we describe the clinical features and management of familial BRBNS in pregnancy. The patient presented with multiple VMs on her head, neck, floor of the mouth, trunk, leg, foot, and vulva and spinal epidural lesions. The…

Giant congenital melanocytic nevi (CMN) are considered to be premalignant with the highest risk for conversion to melanoma. Solid tumors within giant CMN presenting at birth are relatively unusual, and a variety of malignancies have been reported within these masses. However, the frequency of malignancy in these tumors is unknown. We report the unusual case of a female neonate who was born with 2 large, perianal masses within a giant CMN over her trunk. We resected the larger of the 2 masses because of discomfort and bleeding. The mass consisted of an outgrowth of melanocytes with benign chara

Classic Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) is characterized by presence of flammeus nevus involving the first sensory branch of trigeminal nerve, ipsilateral leptomeningeal angiomatosis, and choroidal angioma. Sporadic cases of SWS without facial nevus (SWS type III) have been rarely reported. Here we report the clinical and neuroradiological findings of five patients with SWS type III and compare their findings with those described in the literature. This study confirmed that SWS type III should be considered in any child or young adult presenting with seizures or complicated migraine and intracrani…
