Critique of the Peaceful End-of-Life Theory Using Meleis' 2012 Approach.

BACKGROUND: Providing a peaceful end of life while preserving dignity is a fundamental goal of nursing care. The Peaceful End-of-Life Theory (PELT) offers a middle-range theoretical framework to guide holistic nursing care for terminally ill patients. Despite its broad application, this theory has not yet been systematically critiqued using Meleis' theory analysis framework. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study presents a theoretical discussion employing a structured critique based on Afaf Meleis' (2012) theory analysis framework. The structural and functional components of PELT-including its co

"At least Mom will be safe there": the role of resident safety in nursing home quality.

When family members admit a loved one to a nursing home, they expect that the facility will assure the physical safety of the residents. However, this does not always occur. Safety concerns persisting in at least some modern American nursing homes involve adverse drug events, injurious falls, pressure ulcers, problems with tube feeding, faulty communications or other breakdowns during transfer to or from hospital, and equipment breakdowns or mix-ups. The adversarial legal, economic, political, and media environment surrounding the US nursing home industry poses serious practical impediments to

Nursing Considerations for Cytokine Release Syndrome in Relapsed/Refractory Multiple Myeloma: Experience with Teclistamab from the MajesTEC-1 Study.

OBJECTIVES: Cytokine release syndrome (CRS) is a systemic inflammatory response that is commonly observed as a class effect of T-cell-redirecting therapies. This article provides important practical guidance for nurses relating to the diagnosis, monitoring, and management of CRS in patients receiving teclistamab, based on experience from the MajesTEC-1 clinical trial and real-life nursing practice. METHODS: MajesTEC-1 is a phase 1/2 study of teclistamab in heavily pretreated patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma. To mitigate the risk of high-grade CRS, patients were carefully mon

[From an attractive training site to a dream workplace? Fostering potential and retaining staff - Insights from a cross-sectional descriptive survey study in home-based long-term care].

INTRODUCTION: The growing demand for home care due to demographic changes and the preference of older people to remain at home presents new challenges for nursing professionals. Despite positive practical experiences, only a few trainees currently choose to start their professional career in the home care sector, indicating structural deficits and specific demands in this setting. The aim of the study was to identify factors influencing entry and retention of nursing professionals in ambulatory care, and to highlight actionable features for increasing attachment to the home care sector. Integration of research and nursing experiential learning: a case study.

Teaching research to undergraduates has it own challenges and involving undergraduates in research practical experience is just one of those challenges. As nursing students are in the process of becoming professional nurses, knowledge and skills in research are specific outcomes of the curriculum. One of the outcomes of the B Tech Nursing Science programme offered by the Tshwane University of Technology states that for the baccalaureate nursing programme include analysis, interpretation and utilisation of a range of research findings in scientific nursing and midwifery care as well as the deve

Development of Job Standards for Nurse-Led Rapid Response Teams in the Republic of Korea.

BACKGROUND: Nurse-led rapid response teams (RRTs) significantly improve patient safety. However, the absence of specific job standards can precipitate role ambiguity and compromise care quality. Therefore, establishing tailored job standards that reflect the distinct healthcare context of the Republic of Korea is imperative to optimize RRT performance and clinical outcomes. AIM: To identify nurses' activities in nurse-led RRTs and to develop job standards that define the desired performance levels of RRT nurses and enable task evaluation within the Korean healthcare context. METHODS: This st

The meaning of spiritual care in a pediatric setting.

In the previous issue of the Journal of Pediatric Nursing, one type of evidence-based practice (EBP) format was provided for potential nurse scholars who utilize the EBP process [MacPhee, M. (2002). Journal of Pediatric Nursing, 17(4);313-20]. There are, however, many potential formats to present evidence-based clinical practice innovations. I am eager to work with nurses who have been involved in promoting evidence-based nursing practice. The Journal of Pediatric Nursing will use this column as a forum for sharing evidence-based clinical practice innovations, such as case studies, clinical te

[Emergency care for patients with MA: the key role of IPA].

The importance of advanced practice nurses (APNs) in improving emergency care for patients with Alzheimer's disease is a reality. APNs play a crucial role by providing advanced clinical skills and an approach centered on Naomi Feil's Validation®, a non-pharmacological therapy. This method involves empathetic acknowledgment and affirmation of patients' emotions and experiences, which helps build a relationship of trust and address their specific needs. By collaborating with other healthcare professionals, APNs ensure high-quality care tailored to the emergency situations faced by vulnerable pat
