BACKGROUND: Literature has shown that there is limited compliance amongst nurses with the dysphagia recommendations made by speech-language therapists (SLTs). Poor compliance could have a significant impact on the health outcomes of patients with dysphagia.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to determine the specific barriers to compliance with dysphagia recommendations experienced by South African nurses, with the goal of identifying viable strategies to overcome these barriers.
METHOD: This cross-sectional study made use of a self-administered questionnaire to obtain quantitative data on nurses'

AIMS: This paper describes Australian paediatric nurses' knowledge of and attitudes toward fever and its management and the predictors of their intentions to administer paracetamol to a febrile child.
BACKGROUND: Despite evidence-based support for the beneficial effects of fever over the past three decades, health professionals' negative attitudes toward fever and their reliance on antipyretics to reduce it have persisted and continue to be reported in the literature.
METHODS: A self-report questionnaire was used. An instrument was developed, piloted by test-retest and revised prior to data

Health care systems globally are redistributing the responsibilities to address workforce shortages, yet task redistribution may create tensions between professional groups. Through this ethnographic study, I examine medication management as a case for exploring how professional boundaries are negotiated and reshaped during the redistribution of tasks. Fieldwork in three Norwegian nursing homes comprised 87 hours of observations and seven semi-structured interviews with nine informants. The data were thematically analysed and interpreted through Wenger's concepts of participation, reification,

AIM: This study examines the leadership strategies and styles adopted by nurse educators in Saudi Arabia in response to the global crisis instigated by the COVID-19 pandemic. A multitude of leadership theories and methodologies have emerged throughout history. Nevertheless, only certain approaches can guarantee the most effective strategy for addressing diverse conditions and scenarios, particularly in nursing education. The pandemic crisis prompted nursing experts to seek other leadership models more appropriate for comparable circumstances.
METHODS: Descriptive phenomenology. Seventeen nurs

OBJECTIVE: The primary objective of this scoping review is to explore what is known about cultivating rapport between nurses and adult patients in ambulatory oncology care. A bibliometric analysis will be performed to explore whether this method enhances mapping of the literature.
INTRODUCTION: Research demonstrates that patients with cancer value nurses not only for their skillful delivery of treatment but also for their support and guidance. Rapport, or nurse-patient bonding, is associated with patient satisfaction. Although the importance of the nurse-patient relationship in oncology nursi

In patients with acute myocardial infarction, early reperfusion and sustained patency of the culprit artery are important determinants of survival. The 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) is considered the noninvasive gold standard for identification of acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction. Nurses play a critical role in the process of obtaining, interpreting, and communicating ECG findings. This study evaluates nurses' ability to differentiate ischemic from nonischemic ECG patterns, to detect affected ECG leads and location of ischemia, and assesses skill level by hospital unit type. Trichinella spiralis is an intracellular parasitic nematode that infects skeletal muscle cells. Infection results in loss of tissue specific characteristics and conversion of the muscle cell to a Nurse cell. The characteristic changes leading to the formation of the Nurse cell appear complete by day 12 after intramuscular infection. Proteins synthesized in the stichocytes (secretory cells) of T. spiralis and secreted in the host cell are believed to be involved in the process of Nurse cell formation. One secreted glycoprotein of 43 kDa has been considered as a candidate factor involved in Nurs

AIM: To support the development of nursing-sensitive indicators specific to this role.
BACKGROUND: The role of the advanced critical care nurse practitioner is a relatively new role in the Irish healthcare system. The role is attributed to the provision of high-quality care to patients. Preparing to evaluate the role is proving challenging due to the varying inconsistencies and responsibilities across hospitals. Nursing-sensitive indicators are measurements where nursing care has had a direct influence on patient outcomes.
DESIGN: A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Against the backdrop of continuously rising demand for healthcare services and an increasingly scarce nursing workforce, innovation and development within the nursing profession have become particularly urgent. Enhancing nurses' capacity for innovative practice is not only crucial for optimizing nursing efficiency but also directly impacts patient safety and the sustainable development of hospitals. This represents a critical issue that requires urgent attention in China's healthcare management sector.
OBJECTIVE: This study examined the associations of psychological resilience and

PURPOSE: The Clinical Nursing Information System (CNIS) is a cornerstone of nursing informatics, yet its adaptability to the dynamic, context-dependent realities of clinical practice remains inadequately understood. Although existing research has quantitatively evaluated CNIS application outcomes, the ways nurses interact with the system and the adaptive strategies they develop have received insufficient attention. This study explored nurses' lived experiences of CNIS use, examining how they perceive and respond to system functions, adapt their clinical workflows, and develop practical strateg

BACKGROUND: Patient death is an inescapable and emotionally demanding reality in nursing, frequently causing significant stress, particularly for novice nurses. Their limited experience often leaves them psychologically vulnerable to the distress associated with patient mortality and unprepared for sensitive end-of-life communication. Existing research predominantly focuses on experienced nurses, leaving a gap in understanding the unique challenges faced by novice nurses, especially within culturally distinct contexts like Iran, where cultural and religious frameworks profoundly shape grief an

Gastric ulcer is a chronic digestive disorder characterized by recurrence, complications, and reduced quality of life. Although pharmacological treatment remains essential, variability in nursing processes, incomplete risk identification, and insufficient follow-up may hinder recovery and long-term disease control. Root cause analysis (RCA) is a structured quality-improvement method used to identify underlying causes of care-related risks and to guide targeted corrective action. This article describes a reproducible RCA-based risk management nursing workflow for hospitalized patients with gast…

Patient mobility or immobility impacts sleep. Sleep is vital in the intensive care unit (ICU) for the healing process. Currently, the number of patients mobilized in the ICU is low. Nurses should prioritize interventions for their patients that promote movement. Mobility of ICU patients is proven to be safe and is recommended by current evidence-based clinical guidelines. Despite the established benefits of early mobility, there are potential barriers to its implementation in practice. Nurses need to collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to safely perform early and ongoing patient mobili

Indwelling urinary catheters are common among patients in the community. Use of a catheter entails a significant lifestyle adjustment on the part of the patient, who must learn a new regime of self-care. In order to help patients to cope with the new device, it is essential that nurses play an active role in educating patients and involving them in the decision-making process. By empowering patients through knowledge of their condition and care, nurses can encourage greater compliance with care plans and reduce the risk of potentially distressing complications that can arise from indwelling ca

Interpretation of acid-base disturbances is an essential skill for critical care nurses. Using the H model makes this process easy. When students and novice critical care nurses feel competent with certain skills, their confidence levels are greatly enhanced. One of us (K.M.K.) has been using the H model for many years to teach students how to interpret the results of arterial blood gas analysis. The students are often amazed at how easy and fun the model makes learning a subject many perceive as complex.

The object of our research is centred around burnout in nurses confronted by the successive and repeated deaths of patients in their care. We propose to study the theoretical links between burnout, coping and alexithymie. Our initial hypothesis is that palliative care formation tends to diminue the characteristics of burn-out, the negative and defensive strategies of coping. On the other hand, the process of palliative and adaptative care education tends to develope more efficient, positive and adaptative strategies of coping. The comparative results of two test groups of nurses, formed and no

Assessing patients' cognitive function requires astute observational skills and a willingness to put aside stereotypes about aging. History taking is an essential aspect of this process and requires nurses to gather information from patients, family members, and significant others. Nurses must assess and distinguish age-related changes from those precipitated by cognitive and mood disorders. In addition, they must be familiar with presenting symptoms of organic disorders such as dementias, and mood disorders such as depression in order to assess older adults for cognitive impairment and collab

BACKGROUND & NEED FOR INNOVATION: Health professions education needs learning experiences that help students practise careful observation, evidence-based description, interpretive reasoning and attention to the human dimensions of illness. Undergraduate nursing education still needs clearly described, theory-informed and transferable museum-based models that move beyond cultural enrichment.
GOAL OF INNOVATION: We designed a curriculum-embedded museum-based innovation for first-year nursing students. Its central contribution is a transferable sequence for slow, deliberate and dialogic observat
