Case studies in occupational medicine for medical undergraduate training.

Medical undergraduate tutorials in occupational medicine were introduced in 1993 in Singapore. The tutorials discuss three case studies of patients likely to be encountered in primary health care practice--occupational dermatitis, tinnitus in a noise-exposed worker, and the finding of anaemia in a pre-employment examination. The cases are used to illustrate the importance of identification of occupational factors in the causation of disease; consideration of occupational factors in the management of disease; and measures for prevention of occupational and work-related diseases and promotion of

Occupational therapy professionals (OTPs) are called to support marginalized groups and advocate for change. Guided by the Framework of Occupational Justice, this qualitative study examined how barriers and facilitators shape FIW's occupational participation and experiences of occupational injustice. Interviews with 20 FIW explored post-incarceration experiences in home, work, health, and social engagement. Data were analyzed thematically and organized into personal, societal, and systemic catego

Compliance versus risk in assessing occupational exposures.

Assessments of occupational exposures to chemicals are generally based upon the practice of compliance testing in which the probability of compliance is related to the exceedance [gamma, the likelihood that any measurement would exceed an occupational exposure limit (OEL)] and the number of measurements obtained. On the other hand, workers' chronic health risks generally depend upon cumulative lifetime exposures which are not directly related to the probability of compliance. In this paper we define the probability of "overexposure" (theta) as the likelihood that individual risk (a function of

Ergonomic Risk Assessment and Work-Related Factors Associated with Musculoskeletal Disorders Among Thai Traditional Massage Practitioners.

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) remain a critical occupational health challenge, particularly in high-force and repetitive professions such as Thai traditional massage. While conventional ergonomic assessments rely primarily on self-report and observational tools, there is a growing need for data-driven occupational health informatics approaches to enable real-time risk monitoring and preventive decision support. This study aimed (1) to determine the prevalence and predictors of WMSDs among Thai traditional massage practitioners and (2) to develop a data-driven occupational heal…
