BACKGROUND: Recurrent dislocation in total hip replacement is difficult to treat and causes severe morbidity.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: 12 patients suffering dislocations were reoperated with a socket wall addition device (anti-luxation ring) for the Lubinus SPII prosthesis, and were followed up after a mean of 4.5 (1-9) years with regard to redislocation, function and radiographic loosening.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to present a new technique for limiting mandibular translation in patients with chronic mandibular dislocation. TECHNIQUE DESIGN: This relatively simple procedure uses 2 Mitek mini bone anchors with osseointegration potential. One anchor is placed in the lateral pole of the condyle, and the other is placed in the posterior root of the zygomatic arch. Heavy suture material is threaded through the eyelet of each anchor and tightened to function as a restraining ligament.

A patient undergoing regular haemodialysis for chronic renal insufficiency developed neck pain followed by progressive spinal cord compression due to subluxation at the level C3-4. Decompression, laminectomy and osteosynthesis led to an almost complete recovery. A review of all the histological specimens suggested that hyperparathyroidism and not amyloidosis caused the vertebral destruction.

One hundred twenty-four cases of lumbosacral fusion receiving transpedicular screw fixation were divided into two groups and reviewed retrospectively. The conditions treated include spondylolisthesis, scoliosis, tumor, trauma, and degenerative disc disease. There were 83 males and 41 females in this consecutive series averaging a 45.2-month follow-up. The primary or first-time arthrodesis rate was 91.9%.
