The patient was found to have bilateral hydronephrosis and significant renal function impairment secondary to pelvic lipomatosis. Basaloid squamous cell carcinoma is an uncommon and highly aggressive variant that can occur anywhere squamous cancers occur. It is most often seen in the head and neck, the perianal region, and the female genital tract. It is extremely rare in the urinary system. In this article, we report the first known case of basaloid squamous cell carcinoma arising in the renal pelvis. Given the aggressive nature of this neoplasm, it should not be omitted from the differential diagnosis of neoplasms arising from the urothelium.

In this article an overview is given of the present knowledge of whole body MRI, MRI of the retroperitoneum, intestines and pelvis. Recommendations are based on current literature and clinical applications in daily routine focusing on efficacy rather than cost considerations. The contribution and complementary role of MRI relative to those of its competing modalities was the most important endpoint assessed. Perfusion and functional information, as well as specific contrast agents in the area of the pelvis are still considered research indications.

We report about a 32-year-old patient presenting with a large pelvic mass. Sonographic and radiological findings were inconclusive. Open tumorectomy of the mass weighing 500 g was performed. Intraoperative fresh-frozen sections revealed no clear signs of malignancy. Decisive histology and immunohistochemistry led to the diagnosis of benign ectopic prostatic adenomyomatosis. The histology and possible etiologies of this rare finding are discussed.
