Mapping themes, trends, and knowledge structure of Behcet syndrome: a bibliometric analysis from 2010 to 2021.

This study employed bibliometric analysis to examine the current literature on Behcet Syndrome, an autoimmune disorder with complex pathophysiology and inadequate therapeutic options. The researchers collected 3,462 publications related to Behcet Syndrome from 2010 to 2021 via PubMed and conducted co-word and social network analyses to identify research hotspots and potential future directions. The co-word analysis produced a bibliographic data matrix, which revealed 72 high-frequency medical topic title (MeSH) terms. Using repeated dichotomy in the gCLUTO software, the researchers created a v

Topical sucralfate for prevention of peristomal wound reaction related to percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy in children: A randomized controlled trial.

There are no standard protocols for peristomal skin care in children with percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tubes. This clinical study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of topical sucralfate as a prophylactic intervention in the peristomal wound reaction (PWR)/infection-associated PEG insertion in children. This study was a randomized, single-blind, controlled trial recruiting child under 18 years old who submitted for PEG insertion. Patients were randomly divided to receive topical sucralfate + peristomal wound care (intervention) or peristomal wound care alone (control). In the interven

Topical Antibiotic Prophylaxis and Intravitreal Injections: Impact on the Incidence of Acute Endophthalmitis-A Nationwide Study in France from 2009 to 2018.

Background: The dramatic increase in intravitreal injections (IVTs) has been accompanied by a greater need for safer procedures. The ongoing debate about topical antibiotic prophylaxis after IVTs emphasizes the importance of large-scale studies. We aimed to study the role of topical antibiotic prophylaxis in reducing the risk of acute endophthalmitis after IVTs. Methods: Population-based cohort study, in France, from 2009 to 2018, including all French patients receiving IVTs of corticosteroids or anti-VEGF agents. Results: A total of 5,291,420 IVTs were performed on 605,434 patients. The rate

A Therapeutic Trial Comparing Modified Autoinoculation, a Novel Approach with Topical Potassium Hydroxide Application in the Treatment of Molluscum Contagiosum.

CONTEXT: Molluscum contagiosum (MC) is a common viral cutaneous infection. Despite multiple treatment options, there is no definitive treatment. In some cases, the lesions are severe, recurrent, and cosmetically odd. Modified autoinoculation (MAI) is a novel technique that induces cell-mediated immunity resulting in clearance of local as well as distant lesions. Potassium hydroxide (KOH) acts by dissolving the keratin and penetrating deeply destroys the hyperproliferative tissue. We would here like to compare MAI with topical KOH in the treatment of MC. AIMS AND OBJECTIVE: The aim of this stu

Topical diclofenac vs placebo for the treatment of chronic Achilles tendinopathy: A randomized controlled clinical trial.

INTRODUCTION: The application of topical diclofenac has been suggested as a possible treatment for Achilles tendinopathy. Our aim was to answer the question, is topical diclofenac more effective than placebo for the treatment of Achilles tendinopathy?. METHODS: 67 participants with persistent midportion or insertional Achilles tendinopathy were randomly assigned to receive a 4 week course of 10% topical diclofenac (n = 32) or placebo (n = 35). The a priori primary outcome measure was change in severity of Achilles tendinopathy (VISA-A score) at 4 and 12 weeks. Secondary outcome measures inclu

In vitro human skin concentrations following topical application of 2% tranexamic acid in co-enhancer cream and branded cream formulations.

BACKGROUND: Melasma is a common pigmentary disorder that responds well to treatment with oral and/or locally injected tranexamic acid but less so to topical application. We hypothesized that this may be due to an inability of some topical formulations of tranexamic acid to achieve robust therapeutic concentrations at the viable epidermal target site in the skin. AIMS: To measure in vitro human epidermal and dermal skin concentrations of tranexamic acid following topical application of Fairence® T-Complex, co-enhancer cream and a Japanese branded cream control ("branded") and compare these wit

Topical or oral fluralaner efficacy against flea (Ctenocephalides felis) transmission of Dipylidium caninum infection to dogs.

BACKGROUND: Dipylidium caninum is a common tapeworm of dogs contracted from ingestion of fleas containing the infective cysticercoid stage. Fluralaner is a systemically distributed isoxazoline class insecticide that delivers highly effective activity against fleas and ticks for up to 12 weeks after a single oral or topical treatment. This study evaluated the impact of this flea insecticidal efficacy on the transmission of D. caninum to dogs. METHODS: Dogs were weighed and treated with a cestocide and then randomly assigned to 3 groups of 8. Fluralaner was administered topically (at the commer

Outcome of topical steroid application in children with non-retractile prepuce.

True phimosis is overdiagnosed due to the failure to distinguish it from physiological phimosis, which is a normal developmental non retractability of the foreskin. The non-retractile prepuce in children is a cause of parental anxiety and concern. This leads to the majority of the children undergoing surgical procedures. Pathological phimosis needs to be differentiated from physiologic phimosis to avoid unnecessary circumcision. In recent years, topical steroid application use in cases of non-retractile prepuce has shown a good success rate and is well accepted by the parents. It has low risks

Methylaminolaevulinic acid photodynamic therapy in the treatment of erythroplasia of Queyrat.

BACKGROUND: Erythroplasia of Queyrat (EQ) is an intra-epithelial carcinoma of the penis. Progression to invasive carcinoma may occur. Its cause is unknown but some evidence suggests infection with human papillomavirus in the pathogenesis of EQ; however, recent data do not confirm this. Therapy is difficult and associated with important recurrence rates. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) employs a photosensitizer excited by visible light. The resulting photodynamic reaction selectively destroys atypical cells. Only few reports exist on the use of topical PDT in the treatment of EQ. OBJECTIVE: We repo

Comparative efficacy of various treatment regimens for androgenetic alopecia in men.

Our understanding of the aetiology of androgenetic alopecia (AGA) has substantially increased in recent years. As a result, several treatment modalities have been tried with promising results especially in early stages of AGA. However, as far as has been ascertained, there is no comprehensive study comparing the efficacy of these agents alone and in combination with each other. One hundered male patients with AGA of Hamilton grades II to IV were enrolled in an open, randomized, parallel-group study, designed to evaluate and compare the efficacy of oral finasteride (1 mg per day), topical 2% mi

Terbinafine. A review of its pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties, and therapeutic potential in superficial mycoses.

Terbinafine is an orally and topically active allylamine antifungal agent with a primarily fungicidal action in vitro. Its spectrum of in vitro activity includes a broad range of dermatophyte, filamentous, dimorphic and dematiaceous fungi, and some yeast species. In clinical trials, mycological and overall efficacy rates of around 90 and 80%, respectively, have been achieved in cutaneous dermatophyte infections (tinea corporis/cruris and tinea pedis) with terbinafine, administered either orally (250 or 500 mg/day) or topically (a 1% cream applied twice daily). Similar rates of cure have been o

Online Public Attention Toward Premature Ejaculation in Mainland China: Infodemiology Study Using the Baidu Index.

BACKGROUND: Premature ejaculation (PE) is one of the most described psychosocial stress and sexual complaints worldwide. Previous investigations have focused predominantly on the prospective identification of cases that meet researchers' specific criteria. The genuine demand from patients with regard to information on PE and related issues may thus be neglected. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to examine the online search trend and user demand related to PE on a national and regional scale using the dominant major search engine in mainland China. METHODS: The Baidu Index was queried using the PE-
