Similarity-Adaptive interaction routing for Drug-Target affinity prediction.

Drug-target affinity (DTA) prediction is an important task in computer-aided drug discovery. Existing methods usually use a fixed drug-protein interaction strategy. This design is hard to adapt to heterogeneous samples. It is also limited in cold-start and low-similarity scenarios. This study proposes SIGMA-DTA, a similarity-guided adaptive interaction modeling framework for DTA prediction. The framework uses drug and protein similarities as explicit reasoning priors. It introduces a similarity-driven routing mechanism. The mechanism assigns weights to different interaction paths according to

Evaluation of Machine Learning Models for Predicting Breeding Values of Key Performance Traits in Iranian Crossbred (Thoroughbred × Turkmen) Racehorses.

BACKGROUND: Accurate prediction of breeding values (BVs) is fundamental to genetic improvement in racehorses. Although single-trait mixed models (STM), typically implemented using BLUP-based procedures, remain the standard framework for genetic evaluation, machine learning (ML) methods offer a flexible, data-driven approach for learning complex relationships among phenotypic, environmental, and pedigree-derived information. These capabilities have encouraged researchers to explore the application of ML methods for predicting breeding values. OBJECTIVES: This study compared the performance of

Use of sexually transmitted disease risk assessment algorithms for selection of intrauterine device candidates.

Sexually transmitted diseases (STD) are an important contraindication for intrauterine device (IUD) insertion. Nevertheless, laboratory testing for STD is not possible in many settings. The objective of this study is to evaluate the use of risk assessment algorithms to predict STD and subsequent IUD-related complications among IUD candidates. Among 615 IUD users in Kenya, the following algorithms were evaluated: 1) an STD algorithm based on US Agency for International Development (USAID) Technical Working Group guidelines: 2) a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) algorithm for man

A Comparison of Machine Learning Approaches to Activity Classification Using IMU Data Collected in a Community-Based Setting.

Machine learning (ML) algorithms can be used to extract clinically meaningful information from movement data captured by inertial measurement units (IMUs), but many human activity recognition (HAR) pipelines are developed on large laboratory datasets that may not reflect small, heterogeneous, real-world samples. The purpose of this study is to systematically compare the accuracy of multiple ML models, feature sets (both simple and expanded), class balancing strategies, null and transition period handling techniques, and sensor configurations for recognizing a set of four everyday activities ex

Whole-orbit radiomics: machine learning-based multi- and fused- region radiomics signatures for intravenous glucocorticoid response prediction in thyroid eye disease.

BACKGROUND: Radiomics analysis of orbital magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) shows preliminary potential for intravenous glucocorticoid (IVGC) response prediction of thyroid eye disease (TED). The current region of interest segmentation contains only a single organ as extraocular muscles (EOMs). It would be of great value to consider all orbital soft tissues and construct a better prediction model. METHODS: In this retrospective study, we enrolled 127 patients with TED that received 4·5 g IVGC therapy and had complete follow-up examinations. Pre-treatment orbital T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) was

New advances in prediction and surveillance of preeclampsia: role of machine learning approaches and remote monitoring.

Preeclampsia, a multisystem disorder in pregnancy, is still one of the main causes of maternal morbidity and mortality. Due to a lack of a causative therapy, an accurate prediction of women at risk for the disease and its associated adverse outcomes is of utmost importance to tailor care. In the past two decades, there have been successful improvements in screening as well as in the prediction of the disease in high-risk women. This is due to, among other things, the introduction of biomarkers such as the sFlt-1/PlGF ratio. Recently, the traditional definition of preeclampsia has been expanded

Classification of mindfulness experiences from gamma-band effective connectivity: Application of machine-learning algorithms on resting, breathing, and body scan.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Practicing mindfulness is a mental process toward interoceptive awareness, achieving stress reduction and emotion regulation through brain-function alteration. Literature has shown that electroencephalography (EEG)-derived connectivity possesses the potential to differentiate brain functions between mindfulness naïve and mindfulness experienced, where such quantitative differentiation could benefit telediagnosis for mental health. However, there is no prior guidance in model selection targeting on the mindfulness-experience prediction. Here we hypothesized that the EE

Forecasting of Glucose Levels and Hypoglycemic Events: Head-to-Head Comparison of Linear and Nonlinear Data-Driven Algorithms Based on Continuous Glucose Monitoring Data Only.

In type 1 diabetes management, the availability of algorithms capable of accurately forecasting future blood glucose (BG) concentrations and hypoglycemic episodes could enable proactive therapeutic actions, e.g., the consumption of carbohydrates to mitigate, or even avoid, an impending critical event. The only input of this kind of algorithm is often continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor data, because other signals (such as injected insulin, ingested carbs, and physical activity) are frequently unavailable. Several predictive algorithms fed by CGM data only have been proposed in the liter

Bayesian additive regression trees for predicting childhood asthma in the CHILD cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Asthma is a heterogeneous disease that affects millions of children and adults. There is a lack of objective gold standard diagnosis that spans the ages; instead, diagnoses are made by clinician assessment based on a cluster of signs, symptoms and objective tests dependent on age. Yet, there is a clear morbidity associated with chronic asthma symptoms. Machine learning has become a popular tool to improve asthma diagnosis and classification. There is a paucity of literature on the use of Bayesian machine learning algorithms to predict asthma diagnosis in children. This paper develo
