Eutopic corticotroph pituitary adenomas and adrenal cortisol-producing adenomas do not usually express somatostatin receptors. However, ectopic corticotropin (ACTH)-producing tumors often express somatostatin receptors. Thus, the octreoscan can detect and localize tumors in 80% of patients with ectopic ACTH syndrome, and so it can be used to differentiate between eutopic and ectopic ACTH-dependent bilateral adrenal hyperplasia. Wandering spleen in a child presenting as intermittent by abdominal mass is presented. Torsion of the spleen is rare, and the methods used to diagnose and treat this pathology are discussed. The diagnosis can be suspected preoperatively by the radioisotope scanning of the spleen.

Although the value of hepatobiliary scan and ultrasonography are well established in calculous cholecystitis, their role in acute acalculous cholecystitis (AAC) is less certain. This study assesses the diagnostic reliability of these tests in AAC chemically induced in 10 dogs with rutin, a compound known to induce AAC. Ultrasonography demonstrated pericholecystic fluid or wall thickening in 8 of 10 dogs. Hepatobiliary scans were abnormal in only 2 of 9 dogs. This study reviews 16 cases of chondroblastoma of the patella which constitute nearly 6% of a large group of chondroblastomas scattered throughout the skeleton. Both radiologic and histologic appearances of chondroblastomas of the patella are indistinguishable from those of chondroblastomas arising in other sites. A reasonable differential diagnosis, including chondromalacia patella, is discussed together with important therapeutic considerations.

We describe a 14-month-old child with dermatomyositis in whom calcinosis was the first sign of the disease. This case shows that calcinosis, usually a late complication of dermatomyositis, may be the presenting sign of the disease even in young children and when Gottron's sign is still absent and muscular weakness not prominent.

Serial gated radionuclide angiocardiography was used to demonstrate partial reversal of alcoholic cardiomyopathy, following abstention from alcohol. Six months subsequent to total abstention, the resting ejection fraction, which is a sensitive index of left ventricular function, increased from 19 percent to 42 percent. Acalculous cholecystitis is difficult to diagnose by clinical means or contrast radiography. Because sonography and cholescintigraphy have both been shown to do well in the diagnosis of calculous cholecystitis, the sensitivity of these newer imaging methods was assessed retrospectively in 33 proven cases of acalculous cholecystitis.
