[The post-traumatic nightmare or the ghost of past trauma].

The post-traumatic nightmare is the reliving of traumatic scenes during sleep and is linked to post-traumatic stress disorder. Unlike other forms of dreams, it can happen at any stage of sleep, invasively, and makes the person relive their traumatic scenario, which can plunge them into a state of terror and shock. Post-traumatic nightmares thereby maintain and reactivate the traumatic memory. However, narration techniques can lead to a marked improvement and even the disappearance of these nightmares.

[Effects of urinastatin on an energy metabolism disorder during shock].

We investigated the effect of urinastatin on energy metabolism disorder during shock. Intravenous administration of urinastatin at the dose of 50,000 U/kg ameliorated the decrease in total adenine nucleotide (TA) levels and in energy charge (EC) of liver and pancreas during traumatic-shock induced by the Noble-Collip drum method in rats. Urinastatin, at a concentration of 3,000 U/ml, suppressed the decrease in EC of rat liver slices exposed to the medium including 10% serum obtained from traumatic-shock rats. Aprotinin showed a similar effect. Depression in respiratory activity of liver mitoch

Beta-endorphin and cortisol levels in plasma and CSF following acute experimental spinal traumas.

beta-endorphin and cortisol were measured in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and plasma by radioimmunological method (RIA) in two groups of rabbits with spinal cord traumatic injuries at cervical and lumbar levels, respectively with and without concomitant spinal shock and arterial hypotension, and in a group of sham operated animals as controls. The two groups with spinal lesions displayed a significant beta-endorphin increase in CSF, whereas the cortisol level remained unchanged both in the spinal traumatized rabbits and in controls. Both the opioid and the cortisol concentration rose significantl

[Organization of medical services for patients with severe mechanical trauma].

Analysis of the work of surgical-reanimation teams of the Accident Station and the City Shock Center has shown that their joint activity can provide modern level of giving help to patients with traumatic shock. In organization of work of the City Shock Center of great importance is the distribution of duties among the team members.

Changes of leukotrienes in rabbits subjected to tourniquet shock.

Rabbits were used as a traumatic shock model, and the right femoral root was fastened tightly with a tourniquet for human children for 24 hours. The amounts of LTB4, LTD4 and LTE4 in the blood and muscle were measured just before unfastening and 3, 6 and 12 hours after unfastening. After unfastening, the rabbits showed a gradual decline of blood pressure, and one died 7 hours after unfastening. LTB4 levels in the blood and muscle were within the levels of the control rabbits throughout the experimental period. On the contrary, LTD4 levels in the blood increased just before and 6 and 12 hours a

Acute myocardial infarction due to traumatic coronary artery dissection: conflicts with thrombotic and bleeding pathologies.

Traumatic coronary artery dissection is a rare and challenging condition, requiring treatments for both thrombus and haemorrhage. We present a unique case of traumatic coronary artery dissection in which intra-aortic balloon pumping without heparin usage was useful in the acute traumatic phase of haemorrhagic shock with a contraindication to anti-thrombotic therapy.

Traumatic brain injury provokes low fibrinolytic activity in severely injured patients.

BACKGROUND: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) in combination with shock has been associated with hypocoagulability. However, recent data suggest that TBI itself can promote a systemic procoagulant state via the release of brain-derived extracellular vesicles. The objective of our study was to identify if TBI was associated with differences in thrombelastography indices when controlling for other variables associated with coagulopathy following trauma. We hypothesized that TBI is independently associated with a less coagulopathic state. METHODS: Prospective study includes all highest-level trauma a
