This report presents Frigate, a novel astronomical dataset comprising still-frame images of a section of Low Earth Orbit (LEO), collected by ExoAnalytic Solutions Inc., a commercial space situational awareness (SSA) provider using ground-based optical systems. Datasets of this kind are rare and typically inaccessible to most stakeholders. Through agreement with the company, the images were collected and prepared for use in machine learning and computer vision tasks related to SSA. The raw images contain lens glare artefacts, vignetting, and outer-region degradation. To address this, we additio

Historically, evaluation of the upper extremity vasculature was performed using digital subtraction angiography. With the advancement of cross-sectional imaging and submillimeter isotropic data acquisition, CT angiography (CTA) has become an excellent noninvasive diagnostic tool for evaluation of the vasculature of the upper extremities. CTA allows quick evaluation of vessel patency and irregularity and achievement of the anatomic detail needed in preoperative planning. When interpreting CTA of the upper extremities, radiologists must be familiar with the normal vascular anatomy, common vascul

This case report details the management of a 66-year-old male with hemophilia A (HA) who presented with recurrent hematuria, and was found to have renal artery aneurysms and was subsequently diagnosed with a renal arteriovenous (AV) shunt. While the primary focus centers on the successful endovascular coil embolization of renal artery aneurysms, the concomitant presence of the AV shunt accentuates the significance of this case. Imaging techniques were crucial in the discovery of renal aneurysms and the diagnosis of the AV shunt malformation of the renal artery. This included an ultrasound, CT-

Despite advancements in neurosurgical techniques, subarachnoid hemorrhage(SAH) caused by the rupture of a partially thrombosed intracranial giant aneurysm remains a challenging clinical entity. This report describes the successful treatment of an 80-year-old male patient with SAH due to a ruptured, partially thrombosed intracranial giant aneurysm. The patient underwent a staged endovascular strategy using a flow diverter. The patient presented with SAH secondary to a ruptured, partially thrombosed intracranial giant aneurysm located at the C2 portion of the internal carotid artery and involvin

Stapes surgery is generally performed to treat otosclerosis, and there are numerous surgical techniques and prosthesis materials available. Critical evaluation of postoperative hearing outcomes is crucial for identification and further improvement of treatment options. This study is a non-randomized retrospective analysis of hearing threshold levels before and after stapedectomy or stapedotomy in 365 patients during a twenty-year period. The patients were classified into three groups depending on the prosthesis and surgery type: stapedectomy with Schuknecht prosthesis placement and stapedotomy

Pseudoaneurysms are vascular abnormalities caused by a damaging force on an arterial wall, resulting in a persistent extravasation of blood into the surrounding tissue, which can be the result of infection, inflammation, trauma or any iatrogenic procedure. The incidence of extremity artery pseudoaneurysms is rising because of increased number of endovascular procedures. As a number of complications are associated with these false aneurysms, it is important to know the treatment modalities available. Ultrasound is the most common method of diagnosing extremity pseudoaneurysm because of their su

It was the objective of this report to present a case of recurrent aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) in which an MCA aneurysm was detected by 3D rotational fluoroscopy in an emergency situation. A 44-year-old woman was admitted from an external department after repeated SAH and temporal ICH. Due to progressive anisocoria and cardiocirculatory instability, she was transferred to the operating room without angiography. After a 3D rotational fluoroscopy baseline scan, another scan with 50 ml of iodine contrast agent was performed. The Digital Imaging and

The purpose of our experimental study was to assess the accuracy and precision of CT angiography (CTA), MR angiography (MRA) and rotational digital subtraction angiography (DSA) for measuring the volume of an in vitro aneurysm model. A rigid model of the anterior cerebral circulation harbouring an anterior communicating aneurysm was connected to a pulsatile circuit. It was studied using unenhanced 3D time-of-flight MRA, contrast-enhanced CTA and rotational DSA angiography. The source images were then postprocessed on dedicated workstations to calculate the volume of the aneurysm. CTA was more

Three rare cases of purely intraventricular aneurysms are described, including a unique aneurysm in the fourth ventricle. A 30-year-old female, a 47-year-old male, and an 11-year-old girl presented with disturbance of consciousness due to massive intraventricular hemorrhage. Digital subtraction angiography revealed an idiopathic peripheral aneurysm in the fourth ventricle in the first patient, and aneurysms in the lateral ventricle associated with moyamoya disease in the latter two patients. The former two aneurysms were treated surgically and histologically confirmed to be pseudoaneurysms. Th

We present a case of 'subclavian steal syndrome' secondary to Takayasu arteritis, in a 32-year-old, Japanese woman, whose clinical manifestations result from severe ocular and brain ischemia, refractory to high dose systemic corticosteroids. Surgical management using two bypass-grafts was carried out. The first one, a GoreTex, 8 mm in diameter, thin wall, stretch type with ring-bypass graft, from the left external iliac artery to the ipsilateral axillary artery. The second one, an autologous reverse saphenous vein graft from the left subclavian artery to the ipsilateral common carotid artery.

We describe a differential screening method for cDNA libraries which used a combination of subtracted and PCR-amplified cDNA probes, and which can be applied to the selection of genes expressed in multiple tissues. This technique was used to identify genes commonly overexpressed in breast and basal cell carcinomas. These represent stromally dependent, invasive tumors with and without metastatic capacity. Thus, this screening sought to identify genes involved in the early stages of tumor progression. We identified a total of 16 genes, including c-erbB-2 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase

One of the compensatory hemodynamic mechanisms seen in the anemic human fetus is an increased cardiac output. With Doppler techniques, cardiac output was measured in 21 fetuses before and immediately after 38 intrauterine transfusions for severe red cell alloimmunization. Umbilical venous pressures were measured before and after transfusion; amniotic fluid pressure was also quantitated. After subtraction of amniotic pressure, umbilical venous pressure increased by 1.7 +/- 2.8 mm Hg (p less than 0.01). Left and right ventricular output declined by 19% and 22%, respectively (p less than 0.001).

Antibody-dependent cell immunity to the lymphocyte system (ABCIL) has been shown to be a function of a non-thymus-processed cell in the experimental animal. To evaluate its role in the human and to assess its clinical usefulness, we assessed ABCIL in twenty-five patients with various immunodeficiency (ID) syndromes. Our technique measures the lysis of 51Cr-labelled normal human lymphocytes coated with HL-A-specific antibody. Cytotoxicity is expressed as a percentage of 51Cr released after subtracting the spontaneous target cell release. Mean values in normals are 20+/-2 (s.e.). The ten patient

Typhoid fever is caused by a pathogenic, rod-shaped, flagellated, and Gram-negative bacterium known as Salmonella Typhi. It features a polysaccharide capsule that acts as a virulence factor and deceives the host immune system by protecting phagocytosis. Typhoid fever remains a major health concern in low and middle-income countries, with an estimated death rate of ~200,000 per annum. However, the situation is exacerbated by the emergence of the extensively drug-resistant (XDR) strain designated as H58 of S. Typhi. The emergence of the XDR strain is alarming, and it poses serious threats to pub

PURPOSE: To evaluate the biomechanical performance of the modified Brunelli scapholunate interosseous ligament (SLIL) reconstruction with and without suture augmentation, using a cadaveric model under cyclic loading conditions.
METHODS: Eight matched pairs of fresh-frozen cadaveric wrists underwent sequential sectioning of the SLIL, dorsal intercarpal ligament, long radiolunate ligament, and scaphotrapeziotrapezoid ligament to induce dorsal intercalated segment instability (DISI). Each wrist was reconstructed using the modified Brunelli technique; one in each pair received augmentation with 2

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) describes the partial or complete occlusion of blood flow in the distal arteries of the body. A decreased arterial patency may occur due to a reduction in the elasticity or diameter of the vessel. The goal of interventions is to decrease incidence and reduce complications by identifying and minimizing the primary causes. This paper discusses PAD affecting the aortoiliac, common femoral, and femoropopliteal arteries. In a significant portion of the population, PAD may lack usual symptoms such as limb pain, claudication, and diminished pulses. Imaging techniques

The automated processing of retinal images is a widely researched area in medical image analysis. Screening systems based on the automated and accurate recognition of retinopathies enable the earlier diagnosis of diseases like diabetic retinopathy, hypertension and their complications. The segmentation of the vascular system is a crucial task in the field: on the one hand, the accurate extraction of the vessel pixels aids the detection of other anatomical parts (like the optic disc Hoover and Goldbaum, 2003) and lesions (like microaneurysms Sopharak et al., 2013); on the other hand, the geomet

Atlas-based analysis methods rely on the morphological similarity between the atlas and target images, and on the availability of labelled images. Problems can arise when the deformations introduced by pathologies affect the similarity between the atlas and a patient's image. The aim of this work is to exploit the morphological dissimilarities between atlas databases and pathological images to diagnose the underlying clinical condition, while avoiding the dependence on labelled images. We propose a voxelwise atlas rating approach (VoxAR) relying on multiple atlas databases, each representing a

Celiac disease commonly occurs in approximately 1% of populations, but it can be difficult to diagnose. The standard method to diagnose celiac disease includes analysis of endoscopy images of the small intestinal mucosa to detect presence of villous atrophy, which can be subtle. We have devised a means to improve the image-based detection of villous atrophy and other abnormality in videocapsule endoscopy by means of incorporating basis images. Basis images were extracted from a series of 200 consecutive image frames acquired over 100 seconds at the level of the duodenal bulb in 13 celiac patie
