AIM: To evaluate goniotomy, trabeculotomy, transscleral cyclophotocoagulation (TSCPC) and trabeculectomy as initial procedures in children with primary childhood glaucoma from Northern Tanzania.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis of consecutive interventions for primary childhood glaucoma from 2000 to 2013 was conducted at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre. Success was defined as postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) below 22 mmHg. BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of mitomycin C (MMC) and triamcinolone acetonide (TAC) during and after glaucoma filtering surgery.
METHODS: Retrospective interventional consecutive case series. All eyes underwent primary guarded trabeculectomy with either MMC or sub-Tenon TAC injection. We describe a technique of rotational lamellar scleral flap for surgical repair in cases of posttrabeculectomy aqueous leak in patients with button holing or necrosis of the trabeculectomy flap. A rotational scleral flap is marked out from the sclera adjacent to the trabeculectomy site followed by a lamellar dissection to fashion the flap. Relaxing cuts are made at the base of the flap so as to ensure that the rotation flap adequately covers the site of aqueous leak. This flap is then secured to the underlying sclera and the cornea at the limbus.

Trabeculectomy is currently the standard filtration procedure for surgical treatment of glaucoma. This technique has advantages over full thickness procedures but can cause early postoperative complications such as hyphema, shallow or flat anterior chamber, hypotony with the risk of choroidal detachment, and maculopathy. During the years 1977-1986, 338 patients at the University Eye Clinic were diagnosed as having congenital glaucoma. This paper presents our experience of the management of 88 of these patients (161 eyes) who had a follow-up of at least 3 years. The charts of 83 patients with iridocorneal endothelial (ICE) syndrome were retrospectively reviewed. Forty-two eyes of 42 patients had had filtering surgery, 37 of whom had had a trabeculectomy to reduce uncontrolled intraocular pressure.
