Microoxygen polarographic electrodes were constructed and used to measure oxygen tension (P(OO2)) in the eyes of rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri). The values obtained are compared with arterial blood and environmental water P(OO2) and indicate that there is an oxygen-concentrating mechanism in the eye supplying oxygen to the avascular retina. A case of Diphyllobothrium latum infection in a 49-year old man is described, and diphyllobothriasis latum in the Republic of Korea is briefly reviewed. An incomplete strobila of a tapeworm, 95 cm in length, without scolex and neck, was spontaneously discharged in the feces of a patient. Dark and light adaptation of pineal photoreceptors was studied in the isolated pineal organ of the rainbow trout, Salmo gairdneri. After intracellular recording, the photoreceptors were iontophoretically injected with Lucifer yellow CH or with horseradish peroxidase for morphological characterization. Pineal photoreceptor cells responded to light with a hyperpolarization whose amplitude was graded with intensity. Leucocyte cell-derived chemotaxin-2 (LECT2) was originally demonstrated to have a chemotactic activity against human neutrophils in vitro. Current evidence suggests that LECT2 may be a multifunctional protein involved in cell growth, differentiation and autoimmune. Gyrodactylus salmonis is a common ectoparasite on the fins and body of North American salmonids in fresh water. In this study, the spatial distribution of G. salmonis on 60 captive hatchery-reared rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss , is reported.
