The authors examined the glabellar reflex and the palmomental reflex in 100 subjects, including patients with Parkinson disease (n = 41), patients with progressive supranuclear palsy (n = 12), patients with multiple system atrophy (n = 7), and healthy, age-matched, controls (n = 40). The study provides evidence that these reflexes, particularly glabellar reflex, are relatively sensitive signs of parkinsonian disorders, but they lack specificity as they do not differentiate among the three most common parkinsonian disorders.

Both intracardiac repair and fine anastomotic procedures are hard to visualize in the sterile operative field. To overcome this problem, we have recently developed an endoscope video system for intraoperative monitoring in open heart surgery. The endoscope can be introduced into the cardiac cavity in a sterile fashion and thus be used to visualize intracardiac lesions as well as the operative procedures. This endoscopic video monitoring system is considered to be useful not only for thoracic surgery but also for cardiac surgery as well.

Forty-eight term infants in a tertiary center in Puerto Rico during 1985-86 were monitored prospectively since birth completing a neuropsychological evaluation using the Mental Developmental Index of Bayley Scales. The influence of gender on psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) diagnosis was examined retrospectively in 439 subjects undergoing video-EEG (vEEG) for spell classification, of whom 142 women and 42 men had confirmed PNES. The epileptologist's predicted diagnosis was correct in 72% overall. Confirmed epilepsy was correctly predicted in 94% men and 88% women.
