BACKGROUND: The cornea plays a role in the refractive power of the eye, and when its natural curvature and thickness are compromised by diseases such as keratoconus or high myopia, this results in loss of visual acuity. METHODS: A database search of ICL surgeries over a 5-year period (2009-2013) was conducted, and 83 eyes of 44 patients were included. The aim of the study was to evaluate the indications and outcomes of intraocular lens (IOL) explantation in Chinese patients. The medical records of all Chinese patients who underwent IOL explantation in Hong Kong Eye Hospital, from January 2008 to March 2013, were reviewed.
