Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, A1A2BO, Rhesus and Kell systems were investigated in a sample of 28,439 blood donors native of northern Sardinia. The frequency of deficient male individuals was 6.56%. Higher values of r, D, and CDe compared to the averages for continental Italy were observed. Variations within the island were found in the A1A2BO and Rhesus blood group systems.

Immunologic injury is an important contributing factor in failure of aortic valve allografts. The etiology of this immune reaction is unknown, but blood group antibodies have been postulated. In 46 patients, ABO and rhesus blood group compatibility bore no relationship between the success or failure or aortic valve allotransplantation. Therefore, circulating blood group antibodies do not contribute to valve failure, and recipients do not have to receive aortic valve allografts matched for ABO or rhesus compatibility.

A total of 100 animals were inoculated twice within 21 days with the Onderstepoort babesiosis vaccine. High blood group antibody titres were recorded, especially after the second inoculation. The possibility is discussed of neonatal isoerythrolysis occuring after vaccination as a result of maternal isoimmune blood group antibodies gaining access to the circulation of the offspring which inherited the corresponding blood group factors from its size.

BACKGROUND: A direct antiglobulin test (DAT) checks for antibody or complement on the surface of RBCs and is often done following a transfusion reaction. While passive anti-A and anti-B antibodies are known to cause positive DATs, the extent this occurs following transfusion is unknown.
STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: DAT results, ABO type, eluate information, and blood product information were recorded on 1097 transfusion reactions at a large academic hospital over 8 years. The effect of patient blood type, product type, and plasma compatibility of blood product transfused on DAT results were dete

Numerous research studies have investigated the relationship between ABO and Rhesus (Rh) blood groups and the risk of various cancers, yielding diverse findings. While these blood groups have been established as prognostic factors in some cancers, their relevance to colorectal cancer (CRC) remains uncertain. This research aims to determine the link between CRC and the ABO and Rh blood groups and explore any potential implications for disease survival. A hospital-based prospective observational study was conducted from March 2019 to March 2022 at the Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences

Investigations of HLA and blood-groups were carried out in 68 patients with infectious mononucleosis comprising all known cases diagnosed within one year in a restricted geographical area of Denmark. The HLA distribution of these patients did not differ significantly from that of controls. Combining the results of the present investigation with two previous studies did not show any significantly different distribution from that of combined control groups. The ABO and Rhesus typing was in accordance with that found in a major Danish control group. However, available studies do not exclude the p

BACKGROUND: Platelet inventory constraints necessitate ABO-incompatible platelet transfusion. Many minimize the hemolytic impact by confirming low titre (LT) donor isohemagglutinins. This process is costly. Pathogen-reduced platelets (PRP) in platelet additive solutions (PAS) will dilute plasma and decrease high-titre isohemagglutinins (HT). We determined the proportion of HT platelets and incompatible transfusions for units suspended in plasma to reassess the need for titres following introduction of PRP/PAS.
STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: Our titre method is manual tube (1:50) dilution of platel

Apart from solid organ transplantations, use of ABO-blood group mismatched (ABO-mismatched) donors is acceptable in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) patients. About 20-40% of allogeneic HSCT recipients will receive grafts from ABO-mismatched donors. ABO incompatible HSCT procedures are associated with immediate and late consequences, including but not restricted to acute or delayed hemolytic reactions, delayed red blood cell recovery, pure red cell aplasia and graft-versus-host disease. This review summarizes the current knowledge about consequences of ABO-mismatched HSCT in term

Epidemiologic studies have demonstrated an association between ABO blood group status and risk of hemorrhage and thrombosis. However, the mechanisms that govern this association are not fully understood. ABO blood type is defined by the presence of carbohydrate antigens termed the A, B, and H antigens. These antigens can be found attached to glycoproteins and glycolipids of red blood cells, platelets, and endothelial cells; they can also modify plasma coagulation factors. Despite the prevalence and clinical significance of ABH antigens, the repertoire of proteins that carry these blood group a

The current study aimed to determine the prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii in ABO blood groups and assess the relationship between the prevalence of T. gondii and blood groups. A literature search was carried out for epidemiological studies that were published through December 2022. A random effects model was used to determine the OR and the pooled prevalence with a 95% CI. The estimated pooled prevalences of T. gondii infection in the A, B, AB and O blood groups were 38% (95% CI 27 to 48%), 38% (95% CI 29 to 47%), 36% (95% CI 26 to 45%) and 36% (95% CI 27 to 45%), respectively. Also, the pooled

An acquired B antigen, present on the red blood cells of a healthy male blood donor, was investigated. An anti-B typing serum which initially detected the weak antigen on the donor cells contained a separable antibody that was specific for cells with the acquired B antigen and did not react with normal group B cells. A similar, specific, immune antibody was produced in a rabbit by the injection of red blood cells with an acquired B antigen.

In order to test the influence of the plasma substitutes Macrodex 6%, Plasmasteril and Expafusin on subsequent blood-typing and serologic tolerance tests, blood specimens of known donors of blood group 0 Rh negative were incubated with the respective plasma substitutes in various dilutions and serologic tests performed. In the AB0 and Rh system, none of the plasma substitutes tested caused falsely positive agglutinations. Reading of cross-match in the albumin test was not impeded in any of the substitutes. The higher molecular dextran Macrodex 6% and the high molecular hydroxyethylene starch P
