Corrosion behavior is critical to the application of lightweight aluminum/steel joints using new resistance spot welding (RSW) technology. Presented herein is the synthesis, structure, and optical properties of the aluminum(III)-zinc(II) heterometallic compound AlOC-57. This compound was found to form a large unit cell (approximately sixteen thousand atoms) and a three-shell nano-plate structure. Based on the Z-scan patterns, the third-order nonlinear optical response of the heterometallic nano-plate was mainly attributed to its nonlinear absorption (reverse saturable absorption).

Dissolution tests using human enamel were conducted after treatment with aqueous solutions of various aluminum (Al) salts. All Al compounds, except those which formed stable Al-complexes, greatly decreased enamel dissolution in a pH 4 acetate buffer. A comparison with fluoride compounds demonstrated that Al was equivalent to SnF2 and more effective than NaF and Na2PO3F. Furthermore, the reduction in enamel dissolution produced by Al persisted after more than three hr of successive demineralization, which was twice as long as that observed with a pH 4.5 SnF2 solution.

Fe2O3 and Al2O3 nanoparticles are widely used in products and find their way to wastewater treatment plants through the contact of water with these products. In this study, impacts of Fe2O3 and Al2O3 nanoparticles on methane potential of waste activated sludge (WAS) were investigated by comparing long and short term toxicity test results, modelling and FISH analysis. Aluminum is a promising candidate for light at the nanoscale in the ultraviolet (UV); however, the realization of magnetic resonance in the UV range remains challenging due to stringent dimensional requirements arising from the intrinsic loss caused by the interband transition. Here, the mode interaction with the aluminum interband transition and preferential excitation of the hybrid magnetic-electric mode, as discovered in ultrasmall Al resonators, are reported.
