INTRODUCTION: Anencephaly is a serious neural tube defect in which parts of the brain and skull are not developed. But apart from this it is also associated with other malformations which are not related to neural tube in development.
AIM: The present study was undertaken to find the associated congenital malformations in western region of India and establish a aetiological correlation.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was conducted using 20 anencephalic fetuses.

The anencephaly is a congenital malformation, characterized by the absence of the cerebral structures and of the skull. In this study we have considered 5 cases of anencephaly, occurred in the decade 1985-1994. All the pregnant women have been interviewed and underwent ultrasonographic evaluation. Four out of 5 pregnant women have voluntarily interrupted pregnancy. We have seen two cases of diprosopy associated with anencephaly in Brittany between 1975 and 1984. Diprosopy is a partial or total duplication of the face. It consists of the phenomenon of late division in the embryo of the cephalic portion of the neural plate between the 16th and the 18th days. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to assess the gestational age at detection and prevalence of anencephaly in the North of The Netherlands over a 5-year period.
METHODS: A case list of all cases of anencephaly from two fetal medicine units was compiled. Cases were included if the estimated due date was between 1 August 2008 and 31 July 2013.

A case of otocephaly with anencephaly and meningomyelocele: Otocephaly is a rare lethal syndrome with microstomia, aglossia, agnathia, and synotia as major clinical features due to arrest in development of the first branchial arch. Some associated anomalies may be present as cyclopia, holoprosencephaly, cerebellar hypoplasia, situs inversus, and other visceral anomalies. We describe a case of fetus, spontaneously aborted in the 14th week of gestation with otocephaly complex (agnathia, synotia, microstomia) and associated anencephaly and meningomyelocele.
