Two patients with porphyria cutanea tarda were treated with p-amino-benzoic acid (Potaba) (3x4g/day). Normalization of porphyrin-excretion was observed after three respectively 45 days of treatment. Furthermore no influence of the excretion of porphyrin precursors (porphobilinogen or delta-amino-levulinic acid) were noticed. Also, no side effects of this treatment were found.

OBJECTIVE: The increasing prevalence of antimicrobial resistance and the adverse effects associated with systemic administration of antibiotics necessitate the development of alternative therapeutic strategies. The new benzoic acid derivative: (E)-2-(1-isobutyl-2-oxoindolin-3-ylideneamino)-4-chlorobenzoic acid (IOACA) was reported to have a potent activity against Gram-positive bacteria including S. aureus and B. subtilis. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Bleeding is one of the most critical adverse effects of antithrombotic drugs, and many efforts have been made to discover novel antiplatelet agents without bleeding complications. Shear stress-induced platelet aggregation (SIPA), where the interaction of von Willebrand factor (vWF) and platelet glycoprotein (GP) Ib constitutes the initial step, is a promising target to overcome bleeding problems, as SIPA occurs only in pathological conditions. Here, we describe SP-8008, a novel modulator of vWF-GP Ib interactions and evaluated its antiplatelet/antithrombotic effects.
