A 36-year-old man presented with haemoptysis and his admission chest radiograph showed a large thin walled cystic lesion with an air-fluid level in the left lower lobe. The pathological diagnosis of the lesion, which was removed by a left lower lobe resection, was an intrapulmonary bronchogenic cyst.

We have presented four cases of bronchogenic cyst, emphasizing the uncommon radiologic manifestations, including air trapping and/or lobulated contour. Two of the cysts were in the lung parenchyma, one in the left hilum adherent to the left lower lobe bronchus, and one in the posterior mediastinum. Recognition of the unusual radiologic features aids in establishing an appropriate differential diagnosis and directing subsequent evaluation.

Congenital bronchogenic cysts are usually located in the mediastinum or develop as intrapulmonary cysts. Gross examination of excised bronchogenic cysts shows them to be unilocular; histologically, these lesions are characterized by the presence of respiratory-type pseudostratified epithelium as well as small islands of cartilage and seromucinous glands. We report a case of a mediastinal bronchogenic cyst having pulmonary parenchyma within the cyst wall. The rarity of our case, the pathological and clinical features and the embryological development of bronchogenic cysts are briefly discussed.

There are relatively few paraesophageal bronchogenic and esophageal cysts in mediastinal tumors. It is often difficult to distinguish between these cysts. Case 1: 11 year old, male with no symptoms. A 39-year old woman presented with cough. Computed tomography showed a mass in the lower lobe of the right lung. Although bronchofiberscope was performed, accurate diagnosis of the tumor was not obtained. Based on the characteristics of the tumor from the results of chest MRI and PET-CT, a diagnosis of bronchogenic cyst with infection was suspected. Bronchogenic cyst (BC) is a rare congenital malformation of the lung. Most patients remain asymptomatic until adulthood while some are symptomatic in the first few years of life. However, symptoms in newborn period are rare. We report a case of a 3-day-old preterm baby with respiratory distress diagnosed as congenital lobar emphysema on chest X-ray. A CT scan revealed a mediastinal cyst causing obstructive lobar emphysema. The cyst was excised and pathological examination was suggestive of BC.

A bronchogenic cyst is a congenital malformation originating from the ventral primitive gut. It may be located in the mediastinum or in the lung parenchyma. Its location depends on the stage of gestation in which it developed. Despite being a histological benign tumor, many authors recommend its complete excision in order to obtain histological confirmation and to prevent future complications. The present report describes an extrathoracic bronchogenic cyst in a 30-day-old female calf. Histologically, the cyst wall was lined by a layer of ciliated pseudostratified columnar epithelium with peripheral arrangement of cartilage, glands, and smooth muscle fascicles. The mass was successfully removed by simple surgical excision.

A 62-year-old man presented newly developed tachyarrhythmia diagnosed as paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) and was treated with flecainide and enalapril.
