An environmentally-friendly permeable liquid salt pyrolysis method based on capillary heat transfer for recycling waste insulator materials.

Molten salt pyrolysis technology stands out as a potent approach for achieving efficient degradation and energy recovery of composite organic materials. Nevertheless, challenges such as the high melting point of molten salt, product destruction, and the complexities of treating waste salt pose significant limitations to the widespread application and popularization of this technology. To tackle these issues, this study proposes a salt-assisted pyrolysis method based on capillary heat transfer called permeable liquid salt pyrolysis. Focusing on abandoned power industry insulators, the research

Mathematical modelling and analysis of thermoregulation effects on blood viscosity under magnetic effects and thermal radiation in a permeable stretching capillary.

The current study deals with the mathematical modelling and analysis of the effects of thermoregulation on blood viscosity under magnetic and thermal radiation effects on a permeable, stretching blood capillary. The model comprises the governing equations of the resulting boundary layer problem, which is a set of nonlinear partial differential equations, and this is transformed into a coupled system of nonlinear differential equations using similarity transformation. The numerical solution of the problem is attained by the fourth-order Runge Kutta method with the shooting method. The current w

Modelling lung permeability of pharmaceuticals: The effectiveness of biomimetic open tubular capillary electrochromatography and immobilised artificial membrane chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry.

In this study, the potential of mass spectrometry (MS) -compatible biomimetic chromatography (BMC) was explored to assess drug permeability across biological membranes, pioneering a comparison of its application to model pulmonary absorption. Two BMC techniques were evaluated i.e., immobilised artificial membrane liquid chromatography (IAM-LC) and open-tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC) on fused silica capillaries coated with phospholipid vesicles. This application was validated on a dataset of 53 structurally diverse compounds whose pulmonary permeability is already evidenced in

Capillary permeability-increasing enzyme from the venom of Agkistrodon caliginosus (kankoku-mamushi): activity due to the release of peptide material from a protein in bovine plasma.

When a mixture of the purified capillary permeability-increasing enzyme from A. caliginosus venom and bovine plasma or heated bovine plasma was injected into the depilated skin of the back of a rabbit, the capillary permeability-increasing activity was much greater than that induced by injection of the enzyme alone. The substance which increases capillary permeability was extracted from the incubated mixture of bovine plasma and enzyme with 50-70% ethanol. Its activity was lost when treated with carboxypeptidase A. Thus, it is supposed that the increase in capillary permeability induced by the…

Assessment of alveolar capillary membrane permeability using technetium 99m-diethylene triamine pentaacetate (Tc99m-DTPA) aerosols in patients with diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis - a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Interstitial lung disease (ILD) in diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis (dcSSc) often develops early but remains clinically silent, as dyspnea appears usually after substantial fibrosis. Reduced activity from musculoskeletal limitations further delays recognition. This study assessed alveolar-capillary permeability using 99mTc-DTPA aerosol scintigraphy in dcSSc patients and correlated clearance rates with high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) and spirometry. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study at a tertiary center in South India (December 2018-January 2021), patients fulfi…

Protective Effects of N-Acetyl Cysteine against Diesel Exhaust Particles-Induced Intracellular ROS Generates Pro-Inflammatory Cytokines to Mediate the Vascular Permeability of Capillary-Like Endothelial Tubes.

Exposure to diesel exhaust particles (DEP) is associated with pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases. Previous studies using in vitro endothelial tubes as a simplified model of capillaries have found that DEP-induced ROS increase vascular permeability with rearrangement or internalization of adherens junctional VE-cadherin away from the plasma membrane. This allows DEPs to penetrate into the cell and capillary lumen. In addition, pro-inflammatory cytokines are up-regulated and mediate vascular permeability in response to DEP. However, the mechanisms through which these DEP-induced pro-inflammat

Exposure of tumor necrosis factor-alpha to luminal membrane of bovine brain capillary endothelial cells cocultured with astrocytes induces a delayed increase of permeability and cytoplasmic stress fiber formation of actin.

Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), a proinflammatory cytokine, has long been known to be involved in the pathogenesis of central nervous system infections and of certain neurodegenerative diseases. However, the possible role of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), the active interface between the blood circulation and brain tissue, remained unknown during these pathological conditions. In our in vitro reconstructed BBB model, 1-hr exposure of recombinant human TNF-alpha (in concentrations of 50, 250, and 500 U/ml, respectively) to the luminal membrane of bovine brain capillary endothelial cell

Changes of the blood-brain barrier in experimental metastatic brain tumors.

An experimental model for blood-borne cerebral metastases was developed by introducing Walker 256 carcinoma cells selectively into the intracranial internal carotid artery of rats. This model was used to study the regional capillary permeability of rat brain and metastatic brain tumors of various sizes with the aid of 14C alpha-aminoisobutyric acid (AIB) quantitative autoradiography. The regional capillary permeability varied with the anatomical location and size of the tumor. Intraparenchymal tumors less than 1 mm in diameter showed no increased permeability to AIB. As the tumors enlarged ove…

Neutral proteases and disruption of the blood-brain barrier in rat.

Blood-brain barrier disruption is common in many neurological diseases. Matrix metalloproteinases are induced in brain injury and increase capillary permeability by attacking the extracellular matrix around cerebral capillaries. Other neutral proteases are also increased in sites of secondary injury, and may contribute to the proteolysis of the blood-brain barrier. Therefore, we studied capillary permeability and histological tissue damage after intracerebral injection of neutrophil elastase, cathepsin G, heparatinase and plasmin. Adult rats were injected intracerebrally with an enzyme. After …

Albumin infusion may deleteriously promote extracellular fluid overload without improving circulating hypovolemia in patients of advanced cirrhosis with diabetes mellitus and sepsis.

In patients with liver cirrhosis, albumin is given to improve relative hypovolemia caused by marked splanchnic arteriolar vasodilatation. However, the volume effect of albumin is not predictable and depends also on capillary permeability, hydrostatic pressure and lymphatic ability to re-circulate albumin from interstitium to plasma. In patients with decompensated cirrhosis, the capillary permeability is increased, hydrostatic pressure is higher, and the lymphatics functions are deficient. Hence the albumin molecules are more likely to be extravasated rapidly into the interstitium and are subse…

Delayed and prolonged vascular leakage in inflammation: the effects of dehydromonocrotaline on blood vessels in the rat cremaster.

Local application of dehydromonocrotaline to the rat cremaster produces a delayed prolonged increase in vascular permeability with a time course similar to that of the pulmonary oedema seen after intravenous injection of the same substance. Study of the injured area by the carbon labelling technique and by electron microscopy shows that the increased permeability involves both capillaries and venules of all sizes within the region exposed to dehydromonocrotaline. The vascular leakage appears to be due to a direct effect on the endothelium of small blood vessels. Carbon deposition in labelled c

Host factors influencing the preferential localization of sterically stabilized liposomes in Klebsiella pneumoniae-infected rat lung tissue.

PURPOSE: To gain insight into the host factors influencing liposome localization at sites of bacterial infection. METHODS: In a unilateral Klebsiella pneumoniae pneumonia rat model, capillary permeability and number of circulating leukocytes was quantified and related to the degree of liposome target localization. RESULTS: Liposome localization was highest in the hemorrhagic zone of infection, a zone characterized by markedly increased capillary permeability and high bacterial numbers. Both liposome localization and capillary permeability correlated positively with severity of infection. Lun…

Long-term nutritional deficiencies following sleeve gastrectomy: a 6-year single-centre retrospective study.

BACKGROUND/AIM: There is increasing evidence that hypoalbuminemia and the inability of the renal distal tubule to excrete salt are not the only factors responsible for nephrotic edema. We tested the possibility that vascular hyperpermeability also plays a role in the pathophysiology of nephrotic edema in human primary glomerulonephritis. METHODS: We investigated the capillary permeability by means of a standardized test using albumin labelled with technetium (99mTc-albumin) in 20 healthy adults and in 101 nephrotic adult patients comprising 60 patients with idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (INS;…

Role of complement activation in a model of adult respiratory distress syndrome.

The adult respiratory distress syndrome is characterized by arterial hypoxemia as a result of increased alveolar capillary permeability to serum proteins in the setting of normal capillary hydrostatic pressures. Because bacterial sepsis is prominent among the various diverse conditions associated with altered alveolar capillary permeability, we studied the effect of bacteremia with attendant complement activation on the sequestration of microorganisms and the leakage of albumin in the lungs of guinea pigs. Pneumococci were injected intravenously into guinea pigs and their localization was stud…

Intestinal microcirculation and gut permeability in acute pancreatitis: early changes and therapeutic implications.

Translocation of bacteria from the intestine causes local and systemic infection in severe acute pancreatitis. Increased intestinal permeability is considered a promoter of bacterial translocation. The mechanism leading to increased gut permeability may involve impaired intestinal capillary blood flow. The aim of this study was to evaluate and correlate early changes in capillary blood flow and permeability of the colon in acute rodent pancreatitis of graded severity. Edematous pancreatitis was induced by intravenous cerulein; necrotizing pancreatitis by intravenous cerulein and intraductal gl

Physical plugging does not account for attenuation of capillary leakage by hydroxyethyl starch 130/0.4: a synthetic gel layer model.

Hydroxyethyl starch (HES) solutions, widely used plasma substitutes, reportedly attenuate capillary leakage via physical plugging of capillary defects. We investigated how 2% HES solutions of different molecular weights (HES(70): 70 kDa, HES(130): 130 kDa, HES(200): 200 kDa, and HES(670): 670 kDa) affect dye release from polyacrylamide gels (PAGs) as a model of endothelial glycocalyx. We assessed dye release from 4% PAG with varying concentrations of albumin [0, 1, 2, 4, and 8% (w/v)] by measuring the change in dye absorbance (ΔAbs) at 5 h for each HES solution. For PAG containing no albumin,
