Management of root lesion nematode, Pratylenchus delattrei in crossandra using oil cakes.

Selected oil cakes, neem, castor and mahua, were tried independently and in combination with a chemical nematicide (carbofuran 3G) for the management of Pratylenchus delattrei in crossandra under glass house conditions. The neem oil cake was effective compared to other oil cakes used and there was a synergistic effect when the neemcake was coupled with carbofuran 3G in the management of Pratylenchus delattrei. The treatment resulted in better establishment of seedlings, and with increased plant bio-mass and flower yield.

Control of Cucumber Powdery Mildew Using Resistant Cultivars and Organic Agricultural Materials.

This study evaluated the efficacy of various inorganic materials, biological control agents, organic agricultural materials (OAMs), and essential oils for controlling cucumber powdery mildew (CPM) under greenhouse conditions. Treatments included silicate, bicarbonate, copper sulfate, sulfur-based compounds, Bacillus subtilis KB-401, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens M27, Bordeaux mixtures, chitosan combined with oxidated copper salt, chitooligosaccharides, and essential oils such as castor and rapeseed oil with lecithin. Results demonstrated that Bordeaux mixtures, particularly Bordeaux Mixture I, an

Anti-diarrheal effect of piperine possibly through the interaction with inflammation inducing enzymes: In vivo and in silico studies.

Piperine is a natural alkaloid that possesses a variety of therapeutic properties, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, and anticarcinogenic activities. The present study aims to assess the medicinal benefits of piperine as an anti-diarrheal agent in a chick model by utilizing in vivo and in silico techniques. For this, castor oil was administered orally to 2-day-old chicks to cause diarrhea. Bismuth subsalicylate (10 mg/kg), loperamide (3 mg/kg), and nifedipine (2.5 mg/kg) were used as positive controls, while the vehicle was utilized as a negative control. Two different d…

Antidiarrheal and antioxidant activities of Ajuga iva (L.) leave extract.

We studied the effect of Ajuga iva leaves extract (AIE) on the intestinal absorption, motricity and its antioxidant capacity against diarrhea. Wistar rats were divided and received either: castor oil (CO), CO and loperamide or CO and different doses of AIE. AIE prevented dose-dependently CO-induced diarrhea. AIE at 800 mg/kg showed inhibition efficiency on defecation and diarrhea. The pro-oxidant effect of the CO in the small intestine was inhibited significantly in presence of AIE: increasing glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity and lowering oxygen free radicals (OH°, O2°-), carbonyl protein…

[Basophil activation test as a helpful tool for the diagnostic and treatment of a case of anaphylaxis due to a preparation of depot testosterone].

INTRODUCTION: In many cases of drug allergy, it is necessary to do in vitro test, for several reasons. BAT (basophil activation test) is a v … as a possibility for the diagnosis. The results were remarkable, showing a very high positivity to castor oil. CONCLUSIONS: This is the second case in the world of anaphylaxis to a preparation of Testosterone, and the first one with the castor oil (also called Cremophor or Kolliphor) as responsible. El BAT was essential for the diagnosis and ulterior treat …

Evaluation of antimotility effect of Lantana camara L. var. acuelata constituents on neostigmine induced gastrointestinal transit in mice.

BACKGROUND: Lantana camara L. (Verbenaceae), a widely growing shrub which is toxic to some animal species, has been used in the traditional … ed by the total length of the small intestine. The antidiarrheal effect of LCME was studied against castor oil induced diarrhea model in mice. RESULTS: The intestinal transit with LCME at a dose of 500 mg/kg was 26.46% whereas the higher dose (1 g/kg) completely inhibited the transit of charcoal in normal mice. The % intestinal transit in the neostigmine pr …

Antidiarrheal Action of Bacillus subtilis CU1 CNCM I-2745 and Lactobacillus plantarum CNCM I-4547 in Mice.

Preventive actions of probiotics as antidiarrheal agents are well documented, but their mechanisms are poorly understood. Two selected probiotics, Bacillus subtilis CU1 and Lactobacillus plantarum CNCM I-4547, were tested in mouse experimental models of diarrhea and the possible mechanisms of action were investigated. Diarrhea was induced in mice by oral castor oil administration or by i.v. injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of Salmonella enteritis. The antidiarrheal drug loperamide was used as control. Fecal water excretion was quantified for 2 h and paracellular permeability and electrica…

In particular, diminished release rates were seen for oil mixtures containing castor oil most likely afforded by hydrogen bonding between the solute and the hydroxy groups of the latter vegetable oil. Recoverability of Rift Valley fever and sandfly fever Sicilian viruses from infected Phlebotomus papatasi (Diptera: Psychodidae) trapped in various oils.

We studied the effects of various oils used to trap sand flies on the recovery of virus from infected adult Phlebotomus papatasi. Both Rift Valley fever and sandfly fever Sicilian viruses were readily recovered from virus-inoculated specimens held at 26 degrees C on mineral, olive or castor oil-soaked sheets for up to 12 h. However, after 50 h on oil-soaked paper, significantly greater titers were recovered from sand flies trapped with mineral oil than from sand flies trapped with either of the other oils. This indicates that sand flies trapped on oil-soaked paper would be suitable for virus i…
