BACKGROUND: Since May 2022, outbreaks of monkeypox have occurred in many countries around the world, and several cases have been reported in … eypox.
CONCLUSION: Monkeypox is an emerging infectious disease in China. Monkeypox presenting as a chancre-like rash is easily misdiagnosed. Diagnosis can be made based on exposure history, clinical manifestations and nucleic acid test results.

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infectious disease caused by the spirochete bacterium Treponema pallidum. A characteristic lesion of primary syphilis is chancre. It can develop over genital or extra genital sites, depending on the site of contact with the infectious agent. Cases of oral syphilis have been on the rise in the previous two decades, probably because of the involvement of the oral cavity in sexual practices. We here report an unusual case of primary syphilis who presented with a painless indurated oral ulcer over the lateral borders of the tongue.

We report the case of a 35-year-old homosexual man with previous history of HIV, with primary chacre in the rectum. We believe this paper is significant because the diagnosis of rectal ulcer is more common in recent years, however rectal syphilis is a poorly recognized entity, especially with primary chancre formation.

We describe a 17-year-old man who developed penile annular and scrotal eczematoid syphilids with penile chancre redux. Dermoscopy showed linear-irregular and hairpin vessels with white scales in annular lesions. Histopathology displayed psoriasiform hyperplasia with perivascular lymphoplasmacytic dermal infiltrate. Rapid plasma reagin and Treponema pallidumparticle agglutination assays were positive. The lesions disappeared after intramuscular benzathine penicillin.

In biopsies obtained from syphilitic chancres of varying ages in 10 patients, a total of 766 ultrathin sections of Treponema pallidum were studied by electron microscopy. The course and number of axial filaments observed reveal that one bunch of 3-4 filaments without interruption entwine the whole cytoplasmic body. In 9.2% of the sections a trilaminar or a fragmentary trilaminar periplastic membrane was observed outside the cytoplasmic membrane and the axial filaments.
