A sensitive and specific enzyme-linked immunoabsorbent assay was used in a retrospective study of serum levels of placental alkaline phosphatase (PLAP) in testicular cancer. Sixteen of 28 men with active seminoma had elevated PLAP levels, and 71% had elevated levels of either PLAP, human chorionic gonadotropin, or both. Only four of 22 men with active nonseminomatous cancer had elevated PLAP levels, and the levels were normal in all control patients, including 33 men apparently cured of testicular cancer. Methods suitable for the diagnosis of the mucopolysaccharidoses and mucolipidosis using urine, serum and leucocytes are presented. The methodology includes a screening technique for the mucopolysaccharidoses, a determination of glycosaminoglycans excreted in urine, serum and leucocyte enzymatic determinations for deficient lysosomal enzymes in lysosomal storage diseases. Their use is validated in the diagnosis of 19 patient with mucopolysaccharidoses and 5 with mucolipidoses, and to establish a carrier state in 10 close relatives.

We describe a MUMPS program to facilitate the evaluation of the diagnostic effectiveness and efficiency of laboratory tests using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and likelihood ratios (LR). Test results from a population with and without a disease are stored into retrievable, editable data bases. OBJECTIVE: This study is to evaluate whether Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) is necessary to screen for liver function in apparently healthy elderly individuals.
METHODS: We derived the proportions of elevated ASTs that would not be measured based on 2018-year of paired Chinese elderly (Age ≥ 65 years old) check-up. Defined as AST > 40U/L is elevated. The relationship between alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and AST was analyzed by using Pearson's approach. Receiver operating characteristics curve analysis was used to evaluate the predictive accuracy of ALT for abnormal AST.

Autosomal recessive congenital ichthyoses are disorders of epidermal cornification, but are clinically and etiologically heterogeneous. Some cases, known as lamellar ichthyosis, are caused by mutations in the TGM1 gene encoding transglutaminase 1, which result in markedly diminished or lost enzyme activity and/or protein. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is highly active in filariae and could be a valuable tool for phyllogeny studies.
