Collaboration is a regular part of medical education research. There has been minimal formalised unpicking of features which may promote enjoyable and effective collaboration. This paper focuses on the social qualities of individuals to highlight important aspects to consider when assembling collaborative research teams. We draw on the concept of persona from celebrity studies research to formulate five Famousness Dimensions (FD). Then we use a broader range of education and sociological theories to identify contextual aspects of collaboration, collectively termed KRUD: knowing-that/knowing-ho

Indirect reciprocity is a compelling explanation for stable cooperation in a large society: Those who cooperate appropriately earn a good standing, so that others are more likely to cooperate with them. However, this mechanism requires a population to agree on who has good standing and who has bad standing. Consensus can be provided by a central institution that monitors and broadcasts reputations. But how might such an institution be maintained, and how can a population ensure that it is effective and incorruptible? Here, we explore a simple mechanism to sustain an institution for judging rep

David Mason started his research career at a time when lymphoma diagnosis was based primarily on cellular morphology, clinical symptoms and special cytochemical stains using formalin fixed tissue sections. There were occasions, however, where the morphology was unhelpful, such as in the case of anaplastic or poorly differentiated tumours, where a distinction between lymphoma and a non-haematopoietic tumour was often problematical. Accurate diagnosis became even more important with the developments in the clinical staging of lymphoma and the availability of more effective treatments. One way fo

Diffusive public goods (PG) games are difficult to analyze due to population assortment affecting growth rates of cooperators (producers) and free-riders. We study these growth rates using spectral decomposition of cellular densities and derive a finite cell-size correction of the growth rate advantage which exactly describes the dynamics of a randomly assorted population and approximates the dynamics under limited dispersal. The resulting effective benefit-to-cost ratio relates the physical parameters of PG dynamics to the persistence of cooperation, and our findings provide a powerful tool f

Empirical findings on public goods dilemmas indicate an unresolved dilemma: that increasing size-the number of people in the dilemma-sometimes increases, decreases, or does not influence cooperation. We clarify this dilemma by first classifying public goods dilemma properties that specify individual outcomes as individual properties (e.g., Marginal Per Capita Return) and group outcomes as group properties (e.g., public good multiplier), mathematically showing how only one set of properties can remain constant as the dilemma size increases. Underpinning decision-making regarding individual and

Humans typically consider altruism a moral good and condition their social behavior on the moral reputations of others. Indirect reciprocity explains how social norms and reputations support cooperation: individuals cooperate with others who are considered good. Indirect reciprocity works when an institution monitors and publicly broadcasts moral reputations. Here we develop a theory of adherence to public monitoring in societies where individuals are, at first, independently responsible for evaluating the reputations of their peers. Using a mathematical model, we show that adherence to an ins

BACKGROUND: Global collaboration is a key driver of advances in complex diseases such as lupus, yet its distribution and structure remain insufficiently characterised. This study aimed to analyse global authorship, productivity and collaboration patterns in lupus publications over the last 10 years.
METHODS: A bibliometric analysis of lupus-related publications indexed in PubMed between April 2016 and 2026 was conducted. Author affiliations were disambiguated and mapped to countries. Productivity indicators (number of authors and publications), population-standardised metrics and collaboratio

BACKGROUND: Effective global health partnerships can strengthen and improve health and healthcare systems across the world; however, establishing and maintaining effective partnerships can be challenging. Principles of Partnerships have been developed to improve the quality and effectiveness of health partnerships. It is unclear how principles are enacted in practice, and current research has not always included the voices of low-income and middle-income country partners. This study aimed to explore how The Tropical Health and Education Trust's nine Principles of Partnership are enacted in pra

Anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions remain a critical driver of climate change, necessitating the development of efficient carbon capture technologies. While aqueous amines are widely used, they suffer from high regeneration energies and solvent degradation. Here, we report a nonaqueous, cooperative CO2 absorption system using 1-methylpiperazine (MPZ) dissolved in a family of aromatic additives. Among these, the formulation with 2'-hydroxyacetophenone (2'HAP) exhibited the best overall performance, with a stepped sorption isotherm indicating cooperative absorption and a CO2:MPZ stoichiometr

The cooperative behavior suggests that the D oligomer takes an active part in the conformational dynamics between the subunits of the enzyme.

Fundamental understanding of molecular interactions and transport within microporous materials displaying cooperative Type V adsorption is challenged by the unique features of this isotherm type. In order to capture a broad understanding of this uncommon, yet industrially relevant, behavior in microporous materials, this investigation examines the adsorption equilibria and kinetics of methanol and ethanol in both a metal-organic framework (MOF) material, ZIF-8, and a high free volume polymer of intrinsic microporosity, poly[1-(trimethylsilyl)-1-propyne] (PTMSP). A novel formulation that can ca

Cooperative care, training an animal to voluntarily participate in care procedures using positive reinforcement, may improve welfare and lower stress in horses. This scoping literature review synthesizes two bodies of research to analyze existing scientific evidence on cooperative care and explore its potential application for horses. Two literature searches were conducted in ScienceDirect, CABI Digital Library, PubMed, and Google Scholar using predefined search terms and eligibility criteria. Publications were reviewed against two sets of inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of 1,518 rec

Not all youth exposed to hostile marital interactions develop negative responses to marital conflict. Cooperative marital conflict has long been considered as an important way of managing conflict and may serve as an important context in which hostility might convey during marital interactions. In light of little prior attention placed on the positive side of conflict processes, the main and moderating effects of cooperative marital conflict on youth responses to marital conflict were examined in a sample of 416 2-parent families using a multimethod, 2-year prospective design. Cooperative mari

A large literature shares the view that social norms shape human cooperation, but without a clean empirical identification of the relevant norms almost every behaviour can be rationalized as norm driven, thus rendering norms useless as an explanatory construct. This raises the question of whether social norms are indeed causal drivers of behaviour and can convincingly explain major cooperation-related regularities. Here, we show that the norm of conditional cooperation provides such an explanation, that powerful methods for its empirical identification exist and that social norms have causal e

Prior research on backing-up behavior has indicated that it is beneficial to teams (C. O. L. H. Porter, 2005; C. O. L. H. Porter et al., 2003). This literature has focused on how backing-up behavior aids backup recipients in tasks in which workload is unevenly distributed among team members. The authors of the present study examined different contexts of workload distribution and found that, in addition to the initial benefits to backup recipients, there are initial and subsequent costs. Backing-up behavior leads backup providers to neglect their own taskwork, especially when workload is evenl

We report a comparative picosecond dielectric relaxation study of trihydric alcohols (glycerol, 1,2,4-butanetriol, 1,2,5-pentanetriol, 1,2,6-hexanetriol) in binary mixtures with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). Using time-domain reflectometry (TDR) in the GHz frequency range of 10 MHz to 30 GHz, we determined ε₀, τ, geff, Bruggeman factor, and excess parameters. The relaxation dynamics showed pronounced dependence on chain length and hydroxyl arrangement: longer chain triols exhibited deviations from ideal mixing due to enhanced flexibility, whereas glycerol retained unique relaxation due to compact

An important challenge for individuals of group-living species is to build cooperative relationships with new partners. One famous strategy for doing so is 'raise the stakes', proposing low initial investments that increase if the partner matches these investments in a series of exchanges. Contrarily, the 'all in' strategy predicts high initial investment that may be maintained, but downregulated if not fully matched. We tested these predictions on grooming exchanges between wild male-female vervet monkeys, a species with regular male dispersal. Contrary to model predictions, we found uneven i

From Apple to Merck to Wikipedia, more and more organizations are turning to crowds for help in solving their most vexing innovation and research questions, but managers remain understandably cautious. It seems risky and even unnatural to push problems out to vast groups of strangers distributed around the world, particularly for companies built on a history of internal innovation. How can intellectual property be protected? How can a crowd-sourced solution be integrated into corporate operations? What about the costs? These concerns are all reasonable, the authors write, but excluding crowdso
