OBJECTIVE: The adenosine triphosphatase (ATP phosphohydrolase, EC 3.6.1.3.;ATPase) is a membrane -bound enzyme which transport protons across the plasma membrane using ATP as an energy source.
METHODS: The adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase ; EC: 3.6.1.3) was extracted from membrane preparations of adult Fasciola hepatica by chloroform treatment and purified by means of ammonium sulphate fractionation, gel filtration on sephadex G-200 and DEAE- Cellulose chromatography.

Serum samples from 23 hirsute women and 23 non-hirsute women matched for age and deviation from ideal weight were analyzed for total testosterone (T), percent free testosterone (% FT) and sex hormone binding globulin capacity (SHBG). The % FT was assayed by 2 methods, using diluted serum in equilibrium dialysis (EQD) and using undiluted serum in centrifugal ultra-filtration (UF). A stable, non-nitrogen-fixing mutant of Clostridium pasteurianum W5 was isolated. The mutant has the same growth rate as the wild type on ammonia nitrogen, but is not able to grow on N(2). Cell-free extracts of the derepressed mutant are unable to fix nitrogen, or reduce the alternate substrates of nitrogenase such as cyanide, azide, or acetylene. Recombination with wild-type components from a diethylaminoethyl cellulose column indicates that the mutant contains component II, but is lacking component I activity.

A study was made of the dynamics of serum H-antibodies in typhoid patients depending on the period of the disease and the severity of its course; the blood sera of chronic carriers were examined as well. H-antibodies were determined in the indirect hemagglutination test with the use of erythrocyte H-dignoasticum.
