Litters of female rat pups were handled daily from birth to weaning. When 12 days old the pups were ovariectomized or received sham surgery. A 59-year-old man had a pedunculate perianal tumor initially thought to be a condyloma acuminatum. Since it failed to respond to topical podophyllum resin, the growth was excised and found to be an apocrine gland tumor. Histological features included a duct extending from the surface epidermis to multiple tubules, which led to cystic spaces with papillary projections of columnar epithelium. Decapitation secretion and fibrous stromal proliferation were prominent. The clinical and histological similarities to other apocrine gland adenomas are briefly presented.

Rupture of the gravid uterus is reported in less than one percent of women involved in motor vehicle accidents. A 22-year-old nulliparous woman at 22 weeks gestation was involved in a motor vehicle accident. Evaluation revealed a uterine rupture with complete expulsion of placenta and decapitated fetus. Prompt surgical intervention and control of hemorrhage allowed preservation of fertility.

Effect of vitamin D on the intensity of inorganic phosphorus absorption and the activity of unspecific alkaline phosphatase in the shick small intestine was studied in vitro on everted gut sacks. Repletion of rachitic chicks with vitamin D3 (500 IU) 72 hrs prior to decapitation enhanced the transport rate 3.5-fold. Concomitantly, the activity of alkaline phosphatase increased 1.8-fold. Analysis of the data obtained shows the important role that the interaction of alkaline phosphatase and inorganic phosphorus transport plays in phosphorus absorption from sources of organic nature.

METHODS: The study included 10 adult albino guinea pigs. In a silent room, a 4-kHz octave band noise at an intensity of 120 dB SPL was presented.
