Expanding Horizons: A Case Report of Cleft Expansion in the Mixed Dentition Stage.

A nine-year-old boy with a cleft lip and palate had midface retrusion as a result of maxillary complex growth inhibition. He sought treatment for total crossbite with a Class III skeletal pattern. The maxillary expansion widened the maxilla to improve the sagittal and transverse skeletal relationship. In skeletal Class III patients with a repaired cleft lip and palate, maxillary expansion and protraction usually provide effective improvement. The individual growth of the maxilla and mandible is crucial to the success of the orthopedic procedure.

Supragingival Microbial Profiles of Permanent and Deciduous Teeth in Children with Mixed Dentition.

OBJECTIVES: The present study was designed to investigate the microbial profiles of teeth in different locations in mixed-dentition-stage children, and to compare the microbiomes of permanent and deciduous teeth in the same healthy oral cavity. METHODS: Supragingival plaque samples of teeth in various locations-the first permanent molars, deciduous molars, deciduous canines and incisors and permanent incisors-were collected from 20 healthy mixed-dentition-stage children with 10-12 permanent teeth erupted. Plaque DNA was extracted, and the V3-V4 hypervariable region of the bacterial 16S rRNA g

Management of a Horizontally Impacted and Dilacerated Central Incisor in the Early Mixed Dentition.

An impacted maxillary incisor in the early mixed dentition can pose a clinical challenge for orthodontists and pediatric dentists. Clinical observations supported with a 3-D imaging technique can help not only in assessing the precise location of the impacted tooth and its relation with neighboring teeth but also in correctly executing a treatment plan. The purpose of this paper is to describe the management of a severely rotated and horizontally impacted central incisor using intrabony rotation and simultaneous orthodontically-guided eruption. Timely intervention avoided disturbance in arch i

Orthodontic findings in the deciduous and early mixed dentition--inferences for a preventive strategy.

AIM AND METHOD: The aim of the present epidemiologic study was to obtain representative basic data on the frequency, extent and age-dependence of malocclusions in the deciduous and early mixed dentition. The developmental tendencies of specific malocclusions were investigated from the aspect of orthodontic prevention. The collective comprised 8,864 preschool and school-aged children, of whom 1,225 were in the deciduous dentition (mean age 4.5 years) and 7,639 in the mixed dentition (mean age 8.9 years). The orthodontic data were clinically assessed as sagittal, transversal, or vertical single-

Bilaterally Erupted Conical-shaped Supernumerary Tooth in a Mixed Dentition: A Case Report.

UNLABELLED: Supplemental teeth present in the normal dentition are known as supernumerary teeth, the most common being mesiodens, which are usually seen in the premaxillary region. Supernumerary teeth are considered as one of the most common dental anomalies in the primary and early mixed dentition. A supernumerary tooth in the primary or mixed dentition usually causes ectopic or delayed eruption of permanent incisors, which may further alter the occlusion and might also compromise esthetics. Here, we discuss a case of bilateral supernumerary teeth in a mixed dentition in a female child. HOW

Positioning and preparation errors impacting dental panoramic radiographs in patients with mixed dentition.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the quality of clinically indicated digital dental panoramic radiographs (DPRs) of children with mixed dentition. Despite the likely widespread use of this modality, recent research detailing errors on DPRs is scarce. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A consecutive case series was performed, including 178 DPRs from patients aged 6 to 12 years. Each DPR was reviewed for 10 distinct errors. The findings were analyzed to identify potential solutions. RESULTS: Nearly three-quarters of the DPRs contained multiple errors. Linear regression analysis indicated that the num

Mandibular lateral incisor-first premolar transposition in early mixed dentition: a rare case.

Dental transposition is an anomaly of eruption which is usually seen in the maxilla and rarely in the mandible. The mandibular lateral incisor's transposition with the permanent canine has a prevalence of less than 0.03%. The following case presents an even rarer situation, of a right lateral mandibular incisor that erupted in the place of the first premolar, in transposition with the temporary canine. In the first phase, a series of extractions have been performed, to ensure the necessary free space for moving the lateral incisor closer to its appropriate place, and after that a fixed orthodo

Comprehensive Analytical Interceptive Approach to Manage Crowding in Mixed Dentition: A Case Report.

Dental crowding is among the most prevalent forms of orthodontic malocclusion, commonly observed during the mixed dentition period, with the mandibular anterior region being the most frequently affected. The management of crowding during the early to mid-mixed dentition period has been described using various terms, including space supervision, eruption guidance, pre-orthodontic guidance, and interceptive orthodontics. An analytical approach from extraoral to intraoral examination, along with a mixed dentition model analysis, is vital for effective space supervision, as it helps determine the
