To further examine the relationship between cholecystokinin (CCK) and GABA, the present study assessed the ability of the CCK-A antagonist devazepide and the CCK-B antagonist L-365,260 to substitute for the stimulus effects of chlordiazepoxide (CDP), as well as the ability of CCK-8s to block these effects, in female Long-Evans rats within the conditioned taste aversion baseline of drug discrimination learning. Both devazepide and L-365,260 failed to substitute for the discriminative stimulus properties of CDP, and CCK-8s failed to block its stimulus effects. The benzodiazepine diazepam did sub

Background: Exposure to racial and ethnic discrimination (RED) is positively associated with alcohol-related outcomes among Hispanics; however, links between RED and alcohol use are poorly understood, particularly when considering RED in social media. Objectives: Study aimed to (1) examine the direct and indirect associations between RED on social media and alcohol use severity (i.e., AUDIT total score) via coping drinking motives (a form of negative reinforcement in which an individual uses alcohol to alleviate/regulate negative emotions) among Hispanic emerging adult college students, and (2)

Both discrimination and sexual health disparities have significant negative health implications for Latina/o preadolescent youth, including negative mental health outcomes, STIs/HIV, unintended pregnancy, and ongoing poverty. Studying these links within this population, therefore, has significant public health relevance, both in terms of promoting sexual health in general as well as serving the specific needs of Latina/o youth. This study explored the relationship between perceived discrimination, peer influence and sexual behaviors among 438 Mexican American preadolescents in the Southwest Un

Sexual and gender minority (SGM) individuals face discrimination in health care, compromising both well-being and access to services. Such experiences may foster expectations of mistreatment and mistrust of health care professionals, contributing to delays in care with potentially adverse consequences. This study examined perceived discrimination, mental and physical health, trust in providers, and care-seeking behavior among young adults in Spain, comparing SGM participants with their cisgender heterosexual peers. A cross-sectional online survey was conducted with 217 participants (M = 21.5 a

Exposure to war-related trauma and post-migration discrimination are significant risk factors for mental health problems among refugees and migrants. Understanding the mechanisms linking these experiences to psychological outcomes is essential for informing targeted interventions in host countries. In the context of resettlement, this study examined whether perceptions of injustice and physiological stress regulation, measured through resting heart rate variability (HRV), mediated the relationship between trauma, perceived discrimination, and mental health problems. Data were collected from 98

Significant health disparities exist for transgender female (trans*female) youth. We assessed differences in mental health outcomes based on exposure to discrimination among transgender female youth in the San Francisco Bay Area aged 16-24 years. Youth were recruited using a combination of respondent driven sampling with online and social media methods. Logistic regression models were used to estimate odds ratios for the mental health outcomes, comparing levels of discrimination and levels of resiliency promoting protective factors among sexually active youth in the sample (N = 216). High tran

Mother sheep and goats develop an early bond with their neonate on the basis of olfactory recognition. We investigated whether goats were also able to show early (<24 hr postpartum) nonolfactory discrimination of their kids, as already reported in sheep. In a first experiment, we found that goats are not able to recognize their kid at 1 m away on the basis of olfactory cues alone. By contrast, they showed a significant preference for their own kid in a two-choice test as early as 4 hr postpartum, and prepartum maternal anosmia did not impede the ability of mothers to show discrimination. We co

Pentylenetetrazol is anxiogenic in humans and produces an interoceptive discriminative stimulus in rats which is mimicked by anxiogenic drugs and other treatments and antagonized by anxiolytic drugs. It was proposed that the discriminative stimulus of pentylenetetrazol originates centrally. This hypothesis was tested by injecting small amounts of anxiogenic or anxiolytic drugs into the brain and comparing their ability to mimic or block, respectively, the response to pentylenetetrazol, observed after systemic injection. Food-restricted rats were trained in a two-lever operant task to discrimin

Experiences of discrimination exert a significant psychological toll. However, to our knowledge, no studies have examined longitudinal associations between discrimination and disordered eating (DE) in intersectionally marginalized adults. We investigated associations between discrimination and DE symptoms (binge eating, restraint, body dissatisfaction, weight preoccupation, and emotional eating) cross-sectionally and longitudinally in a predominantly Black, low-income sample of adults (N = 561). Using multilevel structural equation modeling, we found that greater discrimination was associated

OBJECTIVE: This study explored profiles of online risk-taking, exposure to online racial discrimination, and their associations with college adjustment and health risks among Black and Latine students.
PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS: A geographically diverse sample of 571 Black (54.1%) and Latine (45.9%) students (39.9% cisgender women; M = 20.38 SD = 1.57) self-reported on positive online risk-taking (anti-racism risk-taking and coping with racism), negative online risk-taking (antisocial behaviors and problematic internet use), online racial discrimination, three domains of college adjustment (ed

Lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) people have more risk of suffering from violence and situations of discrimination than heterosexual people. The current study compares LGB people with heterosexual people in protective factors, violence, health and well-being factors. The sample comprises 609 Spanish people between 14 and 25 years old. We established a cross-sectional design. A survey including questions about sociodemographic information and protective, violence and health and well-being factors was designed ad hoc for this study. The results show that the LGB group (n = 342) is more at risk of

Using 10-day daily diary data collected in 2019 from 10th grade students in southern U.S. (N = 161, 57% Latina/x/o, 21% Biracial, 10% Asian, 9% White, 4% Black; 55% female, Mage = 15.51), this study examined various forms of peer-based discrimination in adolescents' everyday lives. Results showed that personally experienced discrimination, peer racial teasing, and vicarious discrimination were frequent and impactful events. Results also provided strong evidence for the protective role of psychological resilience and some evidence for the protective-reactive roles of peer support and school cl

In the current study, we examined the precursors and consequences of discrimination for 876 Latino, African American, and Asian American adolescents (Mage = 16.9 years, SD = 0.43). The race/ethnic characteristics of schools and neighborhoods influenced adolescents' perceptions of the race/ethnic climates of these contexts. In turn, adolescents who viewed climates more negatively were more likely to perceive discriminatory treatment by school personnel, peers, and societal institutions. Discrimination from these 3 sources exerted differential influence on developmental outcomes: Greater discrim

A complete empirical characterization of color discrimination in three dimensions has long remained out of reach. Classical studies, beginning with MacAdam's ellipses, provided local measurements in restricted chromatic planes, but a spatially dense and internally consistent mapping of discrimination structure across full color space has not yet been achieved. Here, we present such a systematic three-dimensional measurement of color discrimination in the standardized sRGB stimulus space. Eight observers measured discrimination regions at 35 reference colors distributed on a body-centered cubic

Procedural fidelity is the extent to which procedures are implemented as prescribed. Fidelity errors involving the delivery of consequences can have detrimental effects during discrimination training. This study consisted of a human-operant evaluation of how varying levels of fidelity errors involving consequences may affect performance on an arbitrary computerized matching-to-sample task. We investigated how implementing the task with varying levels of fidelity may affect learning and how initially exposing learners to varying levels of fidelity affects ongoing performance once errors were co

A linked perceptual class consists of two distinct perceptual classes, A' and B', the members of which have become related to each other. For example, a linked perceptual class might be composed of many pictures of a woman (one perceptual class) and the sounds of that woman's voice (the other perceptual class). In this case, any sound of the woman's voice would occasion the selection of any picture of the woman and vice versa. In addition, after learning to name the woman in the presence of one picture, that name would be uttered when presented with all of the images of the woman's face and al

Benson and Greenberg (1969) described an "agnosic" patient whose severe visual recognition disorder could be accounted for in terms of a deficit in the perception of shape. We report here on a recent case of this disorder (visual form agnosia), and have found that she performs very poorly on tasks of discriminating shades of grey, although she is able to discriminate between hues. This sensory deficit helps to explain some of her perceptual difficulties; it also provides further evidence for parallel feature-processing in the human brain complementary to and consistent with recent physiologica

In a shock-escape T-maze task, rats rapidly discriminated diazepam, flurazepam and chloridazepoxide from no drug. The discriminable effects of these benzodiazepines were not completely interchangeable with those of barbiturate anesthetics. The dose-response curve for diazepam asymptoted over the range 15 to 100 mg/kg, ip whereas dose-response curves for flurazepam and chloridazepoxide were more linear.
