A case of thyroid Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) without apparent lymphadenopathy in a 49-year-old woman with underlying euthyroid chronic autoimmune thyroiditis, as indicated by high thyroid autoantibodies titers, is presented. The initial presentation was that of a cold, hypoechogenic nodule of left thyroid lobe which increased in size during the two years of follow up, together with new ultrasonographic findings of the right lobe. No biochemical abnormalities were found apart from mild hypercalcemia. A near total thyroidectomy was performed. Histologically, the left lobe nodule as well as the

Rosai-Dorfman disease, first described in 1969, is a rare idiopathic histioproliferative disease affecting the lymph nodes. Typical clinical features include bilateral painless lymphadenopathy, fever and polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia. In approximately 43% of cases, extranodal sites may be involved and occasionally represent the initial or sole manifestation of the disease. Central nervous system manifestations are exceedingly rare, and only 17 cases have been recorded, among which there are merely seven isolated intracranial cases without concurrent nodal or other extranodal involvement. Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD), a rare non-Langerhans cell histiocytic disorder that primarily involves lymph nodes, rarely manifests as isolated posterior mediastinal extranodal lesions. We report a woman in her 30s with incidentally detected paravertebral masses in the posterior mediastinum on routine screening. Contrast-enhanced CT showed progressive homogeneous enhancement of the lesions; MRI revealed T1 isointensity, mild T2 hyperintensity, and marked fat-suppressed T2 hyperintensity relative to muscle. A neurogenic tumor was initially suspected. Video-assisted thoracoscopic excision establi

Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a rare, benign, non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis disorder. Extranodal involvement is present in a significant number of cases; however, renal manifestations are infrequent, often resembling malignant conditions, leading to a diagnostic challenge. We present the case of a 51-year-old male with a six-month history of fatigue, generalized weakness, and cervical lymphadenopathy. Computed tomography (CT) revealed multiple pulmonary nodules, mild hepatomegaly, and bilateral renal masses encasing the renal vessels and proximal ureters. Positron emission tomography-comp

Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a rare non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis that typically presents with nodal disease in young males. Extranodal involvement occurs less frequently and may involve the nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, or orbit. Airway involvement is particularly uncommon, and simultaneous sinonasal and subglottic disease is exceptionally rare. We describe a 39-year-old female presenting with progressive nasal obstruction, throat fullness, and hoarseness. Nasal endoscopy demonstrated bilateral polypoidal tissue, while flexible laryngoscopy revealed a posterior subglottic nodule. Com

Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis which usually presents as painless lymphadenopathy. Extranodal involvement is known to occur in various organs, and less than ten cases with primary pancreatic involvement have been reported previously. This case report details the clinical course of an elderly female, presenting with upper abdominal discomfort and imaging suggestive of malignancy. Multiple non-diagnostic fine-needle aspirations were followed by surgical intervention. Histopathological evaluation revealed a pancreatic mass with characteristic features of RDD. T

Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a benign histiocytosis with unknown etiology. It generally occurs in cervical lymph nodes. Isolated central nervous system (CNS) RDD is very rare in the literature. We reported a case of no systemic involvement Rosai-Dorfmann which is rarely seen and shows CNS involvement by mimicking meningioma. A 32-year-old man presented with diplopia and a headache he has been experiencing for the past two years. His neurological examination showed left facial paresthesia, consistent with trigeminal nerve trace. Tendon reflexes were increased at the right side and the right p

Rosai-Dorfman disease (sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy, SHML) is a rare, non-hereditary, benign histiocytic proliferative disorder, presenting as painless bilateral cervical lymphadenopathy, with systemic symptoms. Extra nodal manifestations have been reported in 28-43 % cases with rare ocular involvement. We report a case of a 57 year old female presenting with gradual progressive decrease of vision OU since 8 months associated with epistaxis. Fundus examination revealed established optic atrophy in right eye with features of chronic papilloedema in left eye suggestive of com

Sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy (Rosai-Dorfman disease) is a rare disease that typically occurs in lymph nodes. While many body sites have been reported to be involved in extranodal manifestations of the disease, the cardiovascular system has been largely absent in this literature. We report two cases of Rosai-Dorfman disease that involves the heart. Case 1 was a 40-year-old man with chronic myelomonocytic leukemia who was incidentally noted to have Rosai-Dorfman disease on autopsy after succumbing to respiratory failure in the setting of adult respiratory distress syndrome. We investigated the fine structural details of the presence of apparently newly formed oligodendrocytes within reactive astrocytes in white matter lesions obtained by biopsy from seven cases (3 multiple sclerosis (MS); 3 progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML); 1 with nonspecific reactive changes next to a sarcoid granuloma). Intact oligodendrocytes were found within astrocytic cytoplasm in two acute MS lesions and also in the reactive white matter lesion. The internalized cells appeared to lie within membrane-bound vacuoles. Formation of rudimentary junctions was observed between the

Rosai-Dorfman disease is an uncommon proliferation of non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis that mainly affects lymph nodes, although occasionally it can be associated or even present solely with extranodal involvement including skin and subcutaneous fat infiltration. We present a case of cutaneous Rosai-Dorfman disease that occurred at the site of administration of COVID-19 vaccine. The patient was a 13-year-old Bahraini girl who presented with a 1-year history of left upper arm pain and swelling that started after receiving the Pfizer vaccination for COVID-19. Clinically, the mass was medium-size

While a certain international consensus has been reached regarding the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), there are some unique clinical characteristics of AIH in Japan. For diagnosis of AIH using the new simplified criteria proposed by the International Autoimmune Hepatitis Group, it is necessary to re-evaluate the antibody titer determined by using HEp-2 cells, which are widely used in Japan, and the finding of emperipolesis in liver histology, although the criteria are useful for rapid identification of AIH in routine clinical practice. The use of azathioprine as first-l

Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a systemic disease and its etiology is not well understood. It is a very rare but established disease. We report a case of RDD diagnosed in the upper airway that became a life-threatening condition because of the stricture of the subglottic space. A 49-year-old female complained of nasal obstruction, hoarseness and lacrimation. After evaluation following by fiberscopic examination and CT scanning of the head and neck, sinusitis and laryngeal masses were detected. Endoscopic sinus surgery and endolaryngeal microsurgery were performed simultaneously. The masses in

BACKGROUND: Hepatic manifestations in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) are common: Elevation of liver enzymes frequently occurs, and differential diagnosis is often challenging. Liver infiltration by leukemic cells, primary and secondary hepatic malignancies, drug-induced hepatotoxicity, immunological disorders, and infections have been reported. Nevertheless, syncytial giant cell hepatitis (GCH) as a manifestation of autoimmune hepatitis in patients with CLL is an extremely rare condition, currently reported only in anecdotal cases.
CASE SUMMARY: Here, we report the case of a 62-year-old C

Eosinophilic solid and cystic renal cell carcinoma (ESCRCC) is a recently described distinct renal neoplasm known to occur almost exclusively in female patients with or without tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). We report a case of ESCRCC with 2 synchronous angiomyolipomas, including 1 angiomyolipoma with epithelial cysts (AMLEC), a rare cystic variant of AML that typically arises sporadically in the absence of TSC, in a 46-year-old woman with TSC. Besides additional copy number alterations identified in ESCRCC via molecular karyotyping, we also report a unique histologic feature of TSC-associa

The paper describes a case of solitary epithelioid hemangioendothelioma concurrent with nodular parenchymal AL amyloidosis of the lung and Rosai-Dorfman disease in a 70-year-old woman. The core of the tumor was represented by bone tissue with dendriform ossification, as well as by amyloid that showed green apple birefringence at polarized light microscopy. The peripheral portions of the tumor and the myxohyaline stroma exhibited slit-like structures, epithelioid and fusiform cells with small cytoplasmic vacuoles. These cells expressed CD31, CD34, factor VIII, and cytokeratins 7 and 18. The Ki-

Giant cell carcinoma (GCC) is a highly aggressive variant of sarcomatoid carcinoma of the lung. To date, however, there have been no reported cases of ovarian carcinoma mainly composed of GCC. Herein is reported the case of a 54-year-old Japanese woman with an undifferentiated ovarian carcinoma producing granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) and an inflammatory cytokine. Histologically, the tumor was composed of cohesive nests or discohesive pleomorphic mononucleated or multinucleated tumor giant cells, accompanied by inflammatory cell infiltration and emperipolesis.
