Dystrophic calcinosis cutis is diagnosed when calcium is deposited into previously damaged tissue by connective tissue disease, panniculitis, pseudoxanthoma elasticum or trauma. We report a case of dystrophic calcinosis cutis arising from the lesion of an epidermal cyst on the verrucous epidermal nevus. A 20-year-old woman presented with a polypoid pinkish tumor on a brownish, verrucous plaque. Histopathological findings of the pinkish tumor showed calcium deposits as amorphous, basophilic material lining the true epidermis in the upper dermis, which were compatible with dystrophic calcinosis …

Epiglottic cysts are benign laryngeal lesions. Though congenital cysts are often life-threatening, they are usually painless and symptomless in adults, or present with slight, though perceptible, interference with either swallowing or speaking or respiration. Early recognition and diagnosis by routine mirror laryngoscopy is advocated. Prompt removal or draining is the treatment. This is a case report of 42-year-old woman with complaints of feeling of something in throat, sleep apnoea and hoarseness, who on routine mirror laryngoscopy was found to have two large cysts arising from the free bord

Lowe syndrome is a rare genetic disease that appears to cause various clinical symptoms involving the eye, nervous system, and kidney. While a mutation of the OCRL1 gene is known to be responsible for this syndrome, the exact pathophysiology remains unclear. Various multi-organ symptoms are characteristic of Lowe syndrome, but skin lesions have rarely been described. Recently, mechanisms for the association of Lowe syndrome and skin lesions have been proposed. We report this case of Lowe syndrome involving multiple epidermal cysts on the scalp in a 6-year-old male child.

A 20-year-old Japanese woman with an epidermal cyst on the back is described. Physical examination revealed a deep blue and round shaped cystic lesion measuring 10 min in diameter. A comedo-like keratotic plug also could be seen at the center. Histologically, the inner surface of the cyst was clearly separated of two types of the cells. The one was layers of epidermal keratinocytes and the other looked like a basal layer of epidermis, which immunohistochemically stained by S-100, HMB-45, cytokeratin (CK19) and Fontana-Masson staining. We diagnosed this case as epidermal cyst with pilomatrical …

A 66-year-old man was treated with cyclosporin A (Sandimmun) after a kidney transplant and developed numerous epidermal cysts, comedones and folliculitis in the 2nd year of the immunosuppressive therapy. The eruptions were more marked on the back and in the temporal and retroauricular regions of the face. Histological examination of a cystic tumour revealed a follicular cyst of the acro-infundibular type. While hypertrichosis and gingival hyperplasia are now well known as side effects of cyclosporin A, cystic and acneiform skin lesions must also be attributed to this drug.

The so-called idiopathic scrotal calcinosis does not appear to be idiopathic, but rather a process of dystrophic calcification of epidermal cysts. We report a case that would be otherwise called "idiopathic" where we found squamous epithelial lining around the calcified masses. Literature is reviewed in support of the view that the calcified scrotal nodules are related to epidermal cysts.
