Ameloblastic fibrosarcoma transformation from ameloblastic fibroma.

Ameloblastic fibrosarcoma (AFS) is an extremely rare malignant odontogenic tumor. It is composed of benign odontogenic epithelium, resembling that of ameloblastoma, and a mesenchymal part exhibiting features of fibrosarcoma. The development of this lesion in the jaws is either de novo or from preexisting ameloblastic fibroma which has been well documented. The most commonly affected site within the jaw is the posterior mandible. These tumors show local aggressiveness and a high tendency to recur. We present a case of a 33-year-old female patient with swelling of the right posterior mandible fo…

Pediatric Ameloblastic Fibroma: A Case Report.

AIM: To highlight the potential difficulties in diagnosing neoplastic lesion of the head and neck in children within autism spectrum. BACKGROUND: Ameloblastic fibromas are a variation of odontogenic tumors that are located in the posterior mandible in 70% of cases. The tumors may be either unilocular or multilocular when observed radiographically. Ameloblastic fibromas tend to have well-defined, scalloped margins radiographically but may also be corticated. In close to 75% of all cases, an impacted tooth is associated with the lesion. Although not confined to patients who are in their first o…

Orbital ossifying fibroma: A case report.

CLINICAL CASE: The case concerns a 34 year-old man, who presented with pain in the medial canthus in his left eye, with proptosis and diplopia. The examination showed exophthalmus and a palpable mass at the inner canthus. The computed tomography revealed a lesion, which was confirmed by biopsy to be a ossifying fibroma. DISCUSSION: Ossifying fibroma is a benign fibro-osseous lesion that mostly affects the jaw. Clinical presentation and complications vary according to its location. Clinical examination, imaging, and histopathology are essential for definitive diagnosis. Surgical treatment is m…

Peripheral ossifying fibroma, some rare findings.

The peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF) is a benign reactive gingival overgrowth; it occurs mainly in the anterior portion of maxilla in young adults, predominantly among females. The present report describes a case of POF in a male patient, which relapsed ten years later and of the lesion showed superficial bone erosion on surgical excision.

Ossifying fibroma in Buschke-Ollendorff syndrome.

Buschke-Ollendorff syndrome represents an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by connective tissue nevi and osteopoikilosis. Cutaneous … ssociated with Buschke-Ollendorff syndrome. Herein, we report a novel association between ossifying fibroma and Buschke-Ollendorff syndrome and discuss how these conditions are likely to be mechanistically linked.

Peripheral ossifying fibroma: A case report.

Localized gingival growths are one of the most frequently encountered lesions in the oral cavity, which are considered to be reactive rather than neoplastic. Different lesions with similar clinical presentation make it difficult to arrive at a correct diagnosis. These lesions include pyogenic granuloma, irritation fibroma, peripheral giant cell granuloma, peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF). Among these lesions, an infrequently occurring gingival lesion is the POF. Considerable confusion has prevailed in the nomenclature of POF due to its variable histopathologic features. This is a case presen…

Peripheral Ossifying fibroma: a clinical report.

Most localized growths on the gingiva are considered to be reactive rather than neoplastic in nature. The authors describe a 20-year-old male patient with a peripheral ossifying fibroma in the maxilla exhibiting significant size with the disease duration of one year. The signs of recurrence in spite of thorough excision a debridement exposed the need for further study of the causes of recurrence. Clinical, radiographical, and histological characteristics are discussed.

Gorlin syndrome and bilateral ovarian fibroma.

INTRODUCTION: Gorlin syndrome (GS), also known as nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome (NBCCS), is a rare hereditary, autosomal dominant disease that affects various systems. Its prevalence is estimated at 1/57,000 to 1/256,000 of the population. It is characterized by basal cell carcinomas, multiple odontogenic keratocysts, skeletal abnormalities and ovarian fibroma, among other disorders. PRESENTATION OF CASE: To report the case of a young patient with Gorlin syndrome and bilateral ovarian fibroma. DISCUSSION: A 20-year old patient with Gorlin syndrome presented with facial asymmetry, broa…

Peripheral ossifying fibroma: a clincal report.

Peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF) is a common solitary gingival overgrowth thought to arise from the gingival corium, periosteum, and periodontal ligament. Commonly used synonyms for POF include calcifying fibroblastic granuloma, peripheral fibroma with calcification, peripheral cementifying fibroma, and calcifying or ossifying fibrous epulis. Because it is possible to misdiagnose POF as pyogenic granuloma, peripheral giant cell granuloma, or odontogenic tumors, histopathological examination is, therefore, essential for accurate diagnosis, and differential diagnosis is important because of PO…

[Multiple Non-ossifying Fibroma (Case-report).].

The authors present the case-history of a patient with multiple non-ossifying fibroma causing pathological fractures in the long bones of the lower extremities, the vertebral bodies, ribs and bones of the brachial plexus. Since 1988 when the first pathological fracture occurred up to the present time when the tumour was found at other sites five biopsies of foci were made, all with the same histological finding. The pathological fracture in the distal portion of the right femur and the proximal portion of the left femur were treated by osteosynthesis and filled with bone cement. Subsequently i…

Intraventricular fibroma: MR and pathologic comparison.

This case report describes clinical, surgical, MR, and pathologic findings of an intraventricular fibroma, a rare, benign mesenchymal neoplasm. Relatively isointense with normal brain parenchyma on T1-weighted images, the tumor exhibited hyperintense signal on T2-weighted pulse sequences and enhanced intensely and homogeneously after intravenous administration of gadopentetate dimeglumine. Choroid plexus papilloma/carcinoma, meningioma, ependymoma, and subependymal giant cell astrocytoma should be included in the differential diagnosis.

Surgical management of nasopharyngeal angio-fibroma.

Seventy cases of nasopharyngeal angio-fibroma are reported. Most of the patients were young adolescents between 13-24 years of age. 91% were males. The main symptoms were nose blockage and nasal bleeding, the latter was present in all the patients but the amount of blood varied from a few milliliters a time to a few hundreds of milliliters. Although angio-fibroma is benign, it invades the surrounding structures, especially the sphenoidal sinus, maxillary sinus and the ethmoidal sinuses, by expansion or by erosion. In 1/7th of the cases he palate is pushed downwards or bulges. Surgery may be th…
