Analysis and generation of conversational gestures, especially in multi-party settings, remains an open challenge in many fields, due to the lack of publicly available datasets, models, and standardized evaluation metrics. To address this gap, we introduce Multi-TPC, a multimodal dataset of three-party conversations featuring synchronized speech, motion, and gaze. Multi-TPC captures rich conversational dynamics, enabling the study of interactions between multiple participants. Our statistical analysis reveals correlations between gestures and various modalities, including audio, text, and spea

The GaMMA (Gaze, Motion, and Multi-talker Audio) corpus captures the behavior of polyadic conversations among native Danish speakers under both normal and cocktail party conditions. Eleven groups of four normal-hearing participants are recorded while engaged in natural and spontaneous interactions. All conversations were conducted without conversational tasks. Each group was intentionally composed of participants with prior intragroup and interpersonal relations. Gaze and motion data were collected using an optical tracking system and eye-tracking glasses, while speech was recorded via omnidir

PURPOSE: Gaze-following, the task of inferring where individuals are looking, has been widely studied in computer vision, advancing research in visual attention modeling, social scene understanding, and human-robot interaction. However, gaze-following has never been explored in the operating room (OR), a complex, high-stakes environment where visual attention plays an important role in surgical workflow analysis. In this work, we introduce the concept of gaze-following to the surgical domain, and demonstrate its great potential for understanding clinical roles, surgical phases, and team commun

OBJECTIVE: Bipedalism was a significant milestone in the evolutionary development of Homo sapiens sapiens, influencing neocortical evolution and subsequent behavioral changes. Coordinated visual and sensory inputs are crucial for posture, environmental interaction, and surgical planning, with horizontal gaze being a pivotal parameter. This narrative review aims to explore various geometric measures used to assess horizontal gaze in patients, highlighting their applications in surgical planning.
METHODS: A literature review was conducted in indexed databases using Mesh terms like "Cervical Ver

PURPOSE: Human children with disorders affecting vergence eye movements have difficulty during close work, such as reading. Patients with convergence insufficiency show a receded near point and an exophoria that is greater at near than at far. Neurologic abnormalities may underlie these symptoms, but it is difficult to test this idea directly because there is no animal model for this disorder. In the present case report, we describe behavioral testing in a rhesus monkey with a naturally occurring impairment of vergence eye movements (monkey CI).
METHODS: Three monkeys were trained to perform

The collaboration of Fergus Campbell, Gerald Westheimer and John Robson in the 1950s produced insight into the nature of accommodation microfluctuations and instigated work which has led to the current view that the nominally steady-state accommodation response exhibits temporal variations which can be characterized by two dominant regions of activity: a low-frequency component (LFC less than 0.6 Hz) and a high-frequency component (HFC greater than or equal to 1.0 less than or equal to 2.3 Hz). A functional role has been attributed to these microfluctuations as they offer a means by which a di

Intra-ocular lens (IOL) implantation in a growing eye of a young child brings several problems unique to this age group. Better understanding of the rate of refractive growth in children's pseudophakic eyes may help predicting future refractions in these eyes more accurately. Opacification of the posterior capsule, if remained intact, interferes with visual rehabilitation in children. Primary posterior capsulectomy and anterior vitrectomy provides the clarity of visual axis. Optical rehabilitation of children with unilateral aphakia is usually problematic. Posterior chamber IOLs are preferred

While bats are well-studied for their echolocating sense, it has been unclear whether they make eye movements. A recent study shows that bats do move their eyes, but their gaze-stabilizing responses are weaker than in mice despite a comparable vestibular system.

Eye movements reveal how humans sample complex visual information, from reading to medical diagnosis. In radiology, experts exhibit distinctive scanpath patterns, yet existing gaze metrics primarily quantify how far and how fast the eyes move, without isolating short timescale variability in viewing direction. While computational approaches characterize fixation sequences and spatial patterns, they do not measure moment to moment directional change during ongoing examination. We introduce directional variability, defined as the variability in angular change between consecutive gaze displacemen

PURPOSE: Fresnel prisms are widely used to manage strabismus. Although prism power is typically selected based on the deviation in the primary gaze position, actual deflection varies with the gaze direction because the angle of incidence changes. This study quantified gaze-dependent corrective errors in the secondary and tertiary positions.
METHODS: Fresnel prisms (10Δ-40Δ) were mounted on a two-axis rotation stage. Deflection was measured by projecting a laser spot onto a tangent screen 100 cm away while rotating the prisms horizontally and/or vertically (±30°). Two configurations were teste

Eye-gaze direction-tracking technology is used in fields such as medicine, education, engineering, and gaming. Stability, accuracy, and precision of eye-gaze direction-tracking are demanded with simultaneous upgrades in response speed. In this study, a method is proposed to improve the speed with decreases in the system load and precision in the human pupil orbit model (HPOM) estimation method. The new method was proposed based on the phenomenon that the minor axis of the elliptical-deformed pupil always pointed toward the rotational center presented in various eye-gaze direction detection stu

Heterophoria does not provide a reliable clue for ordering prisms in an asthenopic patient. The same reservation applies to associated phoria, as determined by prism correction of fixation disparity. Subjective tests for fixation disparity, even those with a fusionable fixation target, do not correctly indicate the vergence position of the eyes under natural viewing conditions. Attempts to measure fixation disparity on the basis of stereo disparity, using the "Measuring and Correction Methods of H.-J. Haase", have failed.

The foveola is the most important region of the human retina, yet little is known about how the visuomotor system responds to subtle visual disruptions in this region. Using an Adaptive Optics Scanning Light Ophthalmoscope (AOSLO) for high-resolution retinal imaging and retinal-contingent stimulation, we show that even a minute foveolar scotoma (≈0.03 degrees2) produces measurable perceptual deficits and triggers fine-scale reorganization of fixation behavior. Observers, without explicit reports of awareness of the loss, rapidly adopt new preferred retinal loci shifted by ≈5 arcmin to bring st

BACKGROUND: Fixational microsaccades (FM) encompass the involuntary, small-scale movements of the eye that occur as we attempt to fixate on a single point. These movements are crucial for maintaining a steady visual perception despite our gaze's constant, subtle changes. FM is significant because it can serve as an indicator of central nervous system disorders; for example, altered FM correlated with multiple sclerosis disability levels and disease progression. This study aims to characterize FM in patients with Parkinson disease (PD).
METHODS: Fourteen older adults (age 71.0 ± 7.2 years, 6 f

PURPOSE: Eye movement disorders have been observed in many eye diseases, such as amblyopia and developmental dyslexia. The detection of pathological eye movement behaviour is difficult and requires more data for comparison. Therefore, the main purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of age, school level, gender, and mother tongue on eye movements while reading.
METHODS: One hundred and twenty-seven normally sighted children aged 7 - 12 were recruited from grades 2 - 5. The children were asked to read aloud two texts of The New International Reading Speed Text (IReST) of similar di
