Comparison of 50 proliferating trichilemmal cysts with 50 "ordinary" trichilemmal cysts indicated that both types almost invariably occurred on the scalps of women, were diagnosed clinically as cysts, followed a benign course, and featured trichilemmal keratinization. Conjunctival dermoid cysts are a rare subtype of dermoid cyst usually presenting in adulthood. The authors report a case of a recurrent conjunctival dermoid cyst with reactive lymphoid hyperplasia that was immunohistochemically demonstrated to be polyclonal. Follicular centers that were present within the cyst wall were negative for Bcl-2 and positive for the immunohistochemical markers CD20, Bcl-6, CD10, and Ki67, which helped to differentiate the lesion from a follicular lymphoma. The lesion did not recur after 14 months of follow-up.

Microscopic examination of a cystic epithelial tumor removed from the elbow of a 52-year-old man showed islands of epithelium undergoing keratinization without formation of a visible granular cell layer, as occurs within the follicular isthmus, in trichilemmal cysts, and in pilar tumors (proliferating trichilemmal cysts). Other areas showed keratinization with the formation of a distinct, even prominent, granular cell layer, as seen within the follicular infundibulum and in epidermal cysts. Possible modes of origin and relationships among these tumors and epidermal cysts are presented.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the procedure of aspiration and tetracycline sclerotherapy in the management of simple ovarian cysts.

Follicular hyperkeratosis, comedo-like lesions, acquired epidermal cysts, and patchy alopecia developed in various locations in both patients. The formation of structures resembling hair matrices is the least common form of follicular differentiation and only occurs with any frequency in pilomatricoma. Rarely, follicular cysts and both benign and malignant adnexal tumors can show areas of pilomatricoma-like change, or hair matrix differentiation. Examples of focal hair matrix differentiation in a follicular cyst, a cutaneous mixed tumor, and an adnexal carcinoma are presented. Each of these cases also demonstrates the presence of limited differentiation toward structures of the inner root sheath.

Clinically significant cysts in the region of the larynx are uncommon. In this study, 20 cases were recovered for the period 1969-1983. There were eight males and 12 females whose ages ranged from 28-76 years and whose most common symptom combinations were hoarseness (9), local foreign body sensation (5), and pain (4).
