The cavovarus foot is a complex deformity of the forefoot and hindfoot, frequently of neuropathologic etiology. A progressive spinal or peripheral neuromuscular disorder must be excluded by a thorough clinical evaluation. With the failure of nonoperative modalities, surgical options depend on patient age, etiology of the deformity, and the constellation and flexibility of the defects observed. If the hindfoot varus is flexible, correction of the cavus and forefoot pronation through extensive plantar release and metatarsal osteotomies is reliable. The underlying muscle imbalance must be address

A 30-year-old woman with hereditary onycho-osteodysplasia was examined. In addition to the classic tetrad of fingernail and toenail dysplasia, patellar aplasia, iliac horns, and radial head hypoplasia and dislocation, she also had scoliosis, proteinuria, and distinctive bilateral foot anomalies. The foot deformity consisted of a ball-and-socket ankle joint, valgus ankle, forefoot supination, and lateral subluxation at the tarsal-metatarsal joints. The literature showed that the radiographic findings of foot deformity in this dysplasia have never been reported in detail before. Evidence suggest

OBJECTIVE: To study the frequency, result, and concomitant factors of the use of custom-made shoes in Foot Clinic, Siriraj Hospital.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: Studying from patient records and interviewing the patients who had foot deformities without numbness and received custom-made shoes from the Foot Clinic, Siriraj Hospital between January 2009 and December 2011 about the latest custom-made shoes after the first three months of use.
RESULTS: Sixty-seven participants were reviewed and included eight males (11.9%) and 59 females (88.1%) with an average age of 57.1 years. The majority had conge…

OBJECTIVE: To summarize the clinical characteristics of foot and ankle deformities combined with knee and lower limb deformities and evaluate the advantages, clinical outcomes, and considerations of QIN Sihe's surgical strategy for treating such complex deformities.
METHODS: Between January 2022 and December 2024, 32 patients with foot and ankle deformities combined with knee and lower limb deformities were enrolled. The cohort included 23 males and 9 females, aged 10-67 years (mean, 41.1 years). The main etiologies included post-polio sequelae (20 cases) and congenital limb deformities (3 ca

BACKGROUND: Flatfoot deformity is thought to affect gait kinematics, but the effect of flatfoot on segmental motion of the foot during gait remains unclear. Recently, multi-segmental foot models (MFMs) have been introduced for the in vivo analysis of dynamic foot kinematics. The objective of this study was to find the effect of flatfoot on segmental motion of the foot during gait in females by comparisons with age and gender controlled healthy adults.
METHODS: Thirty six symptomatic flatfeet patients (52-80 years old) and 42 symptom-free female participants without flatfoot (60-69 years old)

It is essential to master the techniques of tendon transfer and to know the indications, so as to be able to treat tendinopathy, tendon tear or static deformity in the foot and ankle. The type of transfer depends on the pathology, with the aim of reconstructing or supplementing the affected muscle. Complete clinical and paraclinical assessment is needed to determine feasibility and draw up the preoperative plan according to axial deformity and associated retraction. Success depends on several factors: rigorous technique, fixation method, tension adjustment, immobilization, and rehabilitation.

BACKGROUND: Foot deformity is a risk factor for diabetic foot ulcer. This study was aimed to investigate the relationship between hallux valgus (HV) and diabetic foot through the radiographic measurement.
METHODS: The patients with diabetic foot hospitalizing in the Department of Endocrinology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from September 2016 to June 2020 were selected. Then the foot plain X-ray radiographs were completed, and the size of HV angle (HVA) was measured. Their clinical data were collected, and the ulcer recurrence rate, amputation rate and mortali

PURPOSE: To describe foot abnormalities in proximal femoral focal deficiency and their correlation to the severity.
METHODS: Eighty-nine extremities in 87 patients were evaluated between 1996 and 2020 clinically and radiologically. Fibula length, ankle shape, tarsal coalitions, and the number of foot rays were recorded. Extremities with proximal femoral focal deficiency were classified according to Pappas and divided into severe (classes II and V), medium severe (classes III and IV), and mild groups (classes VII, VIII, and IX).
RESULTS: The fibula was short in 89% and absent in 11% of cases.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to assess the association between foot deformities and type of shoe regularly worn at work. MATERIAL AND METHODS We studied 150 employed women ages 30-40 years and divided them into 3 groups according to type of footwear worn: women in Group I wore flat-soled shoes, women in Group II wore mid-heeled shoes (heels 4.0±0.5 cm), and women in Group III wore high-heeled shoes (heels 10.0±0.5 cm). We used the CQ-ST podoscope for measurements. RESULTS We found significant differences in right foot γ angle between Groups I and III (p=0.033) and between Groups II and…

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this paper is to describe the clinical features and radiological appearance of a rare and complex lower leg and foot deformity in hyperlax children.
METHODS: Four children were included in the study; of these, two had bilateral feet involvement. All deformities were present since birth, comprising a pentad of conditions: (1) pathologic external tibia and fibula torsion, (2) ball and socket ankle joint with medial subluxation and talus medial subluxation, (3) excessive hindfoot valgus, (4) peroneal and Achilles tendon displacement anterior to the lateral malleolus and (5)

This article reviews the most common foot deformities and pedal pathomechanical conditions that often result in pain and disability in the elderly. A description of the deformity or condition, its etiology, presenting symptoms, and various nonsurgical approaches to treatment are explored. The primary goal in all cases is to maintain or improve the patient's ability for comfortable, independent ambulation.
