Exfoliative skin diseases are rare in neonates. When caused by coagulase-positive Staphylococcus aureus, scalded-skin diseases such as staph … ere implemented instantly and included isolation of the infected infant, personnel handwashing with hexachlorophene, and placement of exposed neonates into a cohort. The initial lesion expanded and additional lesions appeared, but 12 hours after initiation of antibacterial therapy, the lesions ceased to proliferate. Cultures from scalded-skin lesions grew coagula …

Malaria, an infectious disease caused by Plasmodium parasites, continues to pose a serious global health problem. PfATP6, a calcium-transpor … o inhibit parasite growth, amongst them di-alkylated hydroquinones, a naphthoquinone disulfide, and hexachlorophene, a disinfectant. Some of the antiplasmodial compounds were also able to inhibit the activity of the purified enzyme, even though the correlation between these two properties was not absolute. The molecular interactions of active compounds with PfATP …

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: High-throughput screening of compound libraries using genetically encoded fluorescent biosensors has identified seve … t at inhibiting slow waves in both muscle preparations and more potent than NPPB. Dichlorophene and hexachlorophene were equally potent at inhibiting slow waves. Surprisingly, slow waves were relatively insensitive to T16Ainh -A01 in both preparations.
CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS: We have identified several second-generation Ano1 inhibitors, blocking gastric an …

Human skin provides a barrier between the host and the physical, chemical, and biological environment. It is also a potential portal of entr … s in the child. Many topical agents have been associated with systemic toxicity, including alcohol, hexachlorophene, iodine-containing compounds, eutectic mixture of local anesthetics, and lindane. Percutaneous toxicity is of greatest concern in the premature infant, in whom immaturity of the epidermal permeability barrier results in disproportionately increased …

In a maternity hospital in which the umbilicus and trunk of healthy newborn infants were treated with 0.33% hexachlorophane dusting powder, the hexachlorophane content of blood was measured in mothers before delivery, in infants' umbilical samples at birth, and at 8 days of age in capillary blood samples. One mother and her baby had rather high blood concentrations of hexachlorophane, probably derived from a toilet preparation used before admission to hospital. Hexachlorophane was absent or barely detectable in the other mothers' blood and in the infants' umbilical blood. The hexachlorophane c
