BACKGROUND: Annually, infections contribute to approximately 25% of the 2.8 million neonatal deaths worldwide. Over 95% of sepsis-related neonatal deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries. Hand hygiene is an inexpensive and cost-effective method of preventing infection in neonates, making it an affordable and practicable intervention in low- and middle-income country settings. A randomized study of lifestyle, quality of life, and the degree of depression was carried out in 399 Novokuznetsk high-school students (219 young men and 180 young women). Daily dietary pattern and eating behavior were studied in the students experiencing the highest psychoemotional stress caused by their adjustment to a new behavioral stereotype at higher school. We studied the relation of habits related to the fecal-oral cycle and incidence of typhoid fever in children attending the school system for 1 to 2 years and in their families. The goal was to identify a predictor to detect families at risk for typhoid fever. Effects of variable equivalent intermittent noises on hearing acuity, peripheral vascular tonus and the latent period of motor responses were studied experimentally. Two-hour exposure to noise in the form of noise intervals of rectangular shape alternating with pause intervals at ratios of 20 :5, 20 :20, 20 :30, 10 :20 and 30 :60 seconds or to nonfluctuating noise was used.
