In this report, the less common oral findings occurring in Gardner's syndrome are described, which occurred concurrently with colorectal polyposis. In addition, what clinically appeared as small intestinal polyps, microscopically represented nodular lymphoid hyperplasia, as reported in the literature. Review of the literature showed the oral findings reported here are not common and that enzyme assays can help detect polyps at an early stage of this complex syndrome.

The effect of circulatory and skeletal damage to the distal part of the mandible was studied on young growing rats after interruption of the inferior alveolar artery. The central part of the mandible including the incisor was most vulnerable to circulatory trauma. Sand rats transferred from their natural environment to laboratory conditions develop diabetes, cataracts, vertebral lesions, liver tumors, malocclusion and gingival inflammation. A unique seventeenth-nineteenth century slave cemetery population from Newton plantation, Barbados, allows examination of craniodental characters in relation to ethnohistorical data. Age-at-death estimates suggest life expectancy at birth of 29 years and low infant mortality; historical demography, however, suggests life expectancy of 20 years and very high infant mortality. Tooth decay, bilateral tooth loss, periodontal disease, root hypercementosis, and severe enamel hypoplasia are high in frequency. The teeth yield evidence of such cultural practices as pipe-smoking and incisor mutilation.

Here we present a detailed palaeopathological study of the hominin mandible ATE9-1 found at the Sima del Elefante site (TE), Sierra de Atapuerca, Spain. Vitamin D-depleted rats 4-weeks old were divided into three groups and given daily for 5 weeks cholecalciferol (0.25 microgram) or 1,25(OH)2D3 (0.075 microgram).
