Primary cardiac angiosarcoma confirmed by multimodality imaging guided liver biopsy.

Primary cardiac angiosarcoma is an extremely rare malignant tumor with various clinical presentations but usually in late stage. We report a case presented with bloody pericardial effusion, in which the final diagnosis was confirmed by multiple imaging modalities such as echocardiography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography, as well as ultrasound-guided liver biopsy.

Image-guided automated needle biopsy of 106 thoracic lesions: a retrospective review of diagnostic accuracy and complication rates.

We reviewed the diagnostic accuracy and complication rates of transthoracic needle biopsy (TNB) with an automated 18-gauge core biopsy needle and gun, using either fluoroscopic or CT guidance. One hundred six lesions were biopsied in 103 patients between 1992 and 1998. Hard-copy images, imaging reports, pathology reports and clinical notes were reviewed. In 3 patients it was not possible to establish the lesion as either malignant or benign from the available follow-up, so these were removed from the analysis of diagnostic accuracy. Adequate samples for histological diagnosis were obtained in

Bleeding Events After Image-Guided Breast Biopsies: Comparison of Patients Temporarily Discontinuing Versus Maintaining Antithrombotic Therapy During Biopsy.

BACKGROUND. Antithrombic (AT) therapy is commonly temporarily discontinued before breast core needle biopsy (CNB), introducing risks of thrombotic events and diagnostic delay. OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this article was to compare the frequency of postbiopsy bleeding events among patients without AT use, patients temporarily discontinuing AT therapy, and patients maintaining AT therapy during breast CNB. METHODS. This retrospective study included 5302 patients (median age, 52 years) who underwent image-guided breast or axillary CNB between January 1, 2014, and December 31, 2019. From January 1,

Accuracy of cytologic diagnoses made from touch imprints of image-guided needle biopsy specimens of nonpalpable breast abnormalities.

We investigated the diagnostic utility and accuracy of touch imprints (TIs) prepared from core-needle biopsy (CNB) specimens of nonpalpable breast abnormalities. We reviewed air-dried, Diff-Quik-stained TIs prepared from 172 consecutive CNB specimens obtained with stereotactic or sonographic guidance. Using criteria established for fine-needle aspirates, TIs were categorized as benign, atypical, suspicious, malignant, or unsatisfactory (i.e., showing fewer than six benign epithelial cell clusters or cell distortion). Cytologic diagnoses of TIs were then correlated with the histologic diagnoses

Cone Beam CT Imaging-Guided Bronchoscopy vs CT Imaging-Guided Transthoracic Needle Biopsy for Peripheral Pulmonary Lesion Diagnosis.

BACKGROUND: The identification of peripheral pulmonary lesions (PPLs) has increased significantly, either incidentally or through lung cancer screening, necessitating more biopsies to differentiate between malignant and benign causes. Cone beam CT imaging-guided bronchoscopic biopsy (CBCT-GB) and CT imaging-guided transthoracic needle biopsy (CT-TTNB) are used commonly for these biopsies, but their comparative diagnostic abilities have not been studied. RESEARCH QUESTION: How does CBCT-GB compare with CT-TTNB for diagnosing PPLs? STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: This single-center retrospective com

Mammary collagen architecture and its association with mammographic density and lesion severity among women undergoing image-guided breast biopsy.

BACKGROUND: Elevated mammographic breast density is a strong breast cancer risk factor with poorly understood etiology. Increased deposition of collagen, one of the main fibrous proteins present in breast stroma, has been associated with increased mammographic density. Collagen fiber architecture has been linked to poor outcomes in breast cancer. However, relationships of quantitative collagen fiber features assessed in diagnostic biopsies with mammographic density and lesion severity are not well-established. METHODS: Clinically indicated breast biopsies from 65 in situ or invasive breast ca

Image-guided stereotactic biopsy of pineal region tumour using CT venography in patient with a pacemaker: a technical note.

Image-guided stereotactic biopsy of pineal region tumours requires careful appreciation of neuroanatomy and avoidance of the deep cerebral venous system. A patient with a pineal region lesion obstructing the third ventricle and causing obstructive hydrocephalus required stereotactic biopsy after cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) diversion. The presence of a pacemaker precluded MR Venography. Fine-cut CT Venography was performed in its stead and merged with image guidance software, and a trajectory was planned avoiding the venous anatomy. Stereotactic biopsy was successfully performed without complicat

CT guided mediastinal biopsy facilitated by PET/CT imaging: Our experience.

The purpose of this retrospective study is to assess the efficacy of mediastinal tumor biopsies guided by computed tomography (CT) and facilitated by positron emission tomography (PET)/CT in our hospital. We also wanted to prove the use of PET/CT in performing such biopsies. Fifty-two patients were biopsied under CT guidance with PET/CT visual co-registration (35) and facilitated PET/CT registration (17). In 49 patients, a diagnosis from the guided biopsy performed was successful and in 3 patients the results were inconclusive. Our results allow us to claim that the accuracy of CT-guided media
