An 84-year-old woman developed high intraocular pressure with a shallow anterior chamber 2 months after an extracapsular cataract extraction with posterior chamber lens implant. The condition did not respond to peripheral iridectomy and removal of the implant but was treated successfully with YAG laser capsulotomy and anterior hyaloidotomy.

Laser photocoagulation has become the standard for treatment of retinopathy of prematurity. In general, it has been found to be a safe and effective means of retinal ablation. We report a case of angle-closure glaucoma in an infant after diode laser treatment for retinopathy of prematurity, which required bilateral surgical peripheral iridectomies.

AIMS: To analyse the unusual physical sign of iris crystals occurring in patients with uveitis.
METHODS: Demographic details and clinical features were documented in 24 patients with chronic uveitis and iris crystals. Plasma immunoglobulin subclasses were measured, and a histopathological review of iridectomy specimens from 33 patients with chronic uveitis was also undertaken.

Examples of "endogenous" or direct and "endogenous" or indirect endothelial trauma are presented. Corneal contusion, McCannel suture, YAG laser iridectomy, congenital luxation of the lens, and chronic over wearing of contact lenses all cause traumatic changes. The etiology and effects of these changes are discussed. Specular microscopy of the corneal endothelium permits good clinical control of both the trauma and wound healing.

Pupillary block glaucoma is a potential complication of implantation. Early recognition and prompt medical therapy will generally successfully treat the condition. In some instances surgical treatment is required if medical therapy is inadequate. Laser iridectomy and laser photomydriasis are other alternatives to surgical therapy. This case reports successful treatment of pseudophakic pupillary block glaucoma using laser photomydriasis.

Ciliary block or malignant glaucoma is thought to be caused by the misdirection of aqueous into the vitreous. It is refractory to medical treatment and often requires vitreous aspiration. We present a case of ciliary block glaucoma caused by sodium chondroitin sulfate-sodium hyaluronate (Viscoat) gaining access to the vitreous through an unsuspected, small zonular dialysis. Vitrectomy performed through a peripheral iridectomy resolved this severe condition.

A 34-year-old patient, with severe factor VIII deficiency (anti-hemophilic factor deficiency) and inhibitor against factor VIII, underwent a phacoemulsification with posterior capsulatomy and thermal iridectomy under general anesthesia. We present a report on a patient with acute glaucoma. Slit-lamp-adapted optical coherence tomography (SL-OCT) confirmed a pupillary block due to a claw lens. After laser iridectomy the situation stabilized. Thus, SL-OCT allows non-invasive, high-resolution imaging in acute angle-closure glaucoma and may be helpful with the differential diagnosis of pupillary block glaucoma and the documentation of the surgical result.

BACKGROUND: Iridodonesis is the clinical sign of lens subluxation. Acute glaucoma caused by a ciliolenticular block may develop. Three cases are described of acute glaucoma following vitrectomy and silicone oil injection in proliferative vitreous retinopathy. The first case developed silicone-induced pupillary block in a phakic eye. Cases 2 and 3 developed elevated pressure in aphakic eyes with deep anterior chambers. Cases 1 and 3 were treated by laser iridectomy. Case 2 was treated by removal of silicone. The pathogenesis and treatment of these problems are discussed.
