Segmental dilatation of the intestine is a rare disease and mostly involves the ileal segment. It commonly presents in the neonatal period and early infancy with symptoms of partial or total obstruction. We report a rare case of an isolated jejunal segmental dilatation in a 7-year-old girl. The child presented with malnutrition and signs of subacute obstruction. The diagnosis was confirmed intraoperatively, and the dilated segment was resected. Although the etiology remains unknown, we discuss its clinical aspects and relevant literature.

Pyogenic granuloma is a benign vascular lesion, uncommon in the gastrointestinal tract, and extremely rare in the small bowel. The diagnosis can be challenging prior to surgery, because of its unusual endoscopic appearance.We present a case of pyogenic granuloma of the jejunum diagnosed by capsule endoscopy and double-balloon enteroscopy and successfully managed by surgical resection.

Clear cell sarcoma (CCS) is an uncommon tumor that usually presents as an extremity mass but can rarely manifest as a gastrointestinal tumor with a diverse spectrum of symptoms, most commonly related to a mass effect or ulceration. Alimentary tract duplications are uncommon congenital anomalies containing a normal gastrointestinal mucosa and smooth muscle layer. Foreign-body ingestion is a relatively common presentation at emergency departments, but long metallic spoon swallowing is an infrequent occurrence. Unlike most cases of foreign-body ingestion, there have been no reported cases of long foreign bodies reaching the jejunum. We report a rare case of a coffee spoon that was swallowed accidentally and passed through the pylorus and duodenal loop and reached the jejunum, with no complications.

Synchronous cancers are defined as malignant tumours that occur simultaneously, each of which must be distinct with no possibility of one being the metastasis of the other. We report a case of metastatic osteosarcoma in the jejunum causing intestinal intussusception. A 58-year-old woman underwent right femoral region amputation, lower lobectomy of the left lung and complete left pneumonectomy after four courses of chemotherapy for osteosarcoma of the right femur with left lung metastases. A 69-year-old Japanese female was admitted to our hospital due to a 2-month history of vomiting after eating. Examination of the small intestinal tract revealed a tumor with calcification in the inner portion, from the horizontal portion to the ascending portion of the duodenum, and jejunojejunostomy was performed. The pathological findings of the tumor gave a diagnosis of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, diffuse small cleaved cell (Working Formulation classification), B cell type, of the jejunum. We report a case of leiomyosarcoma of the jejunum with postoperative hepatic encephalopathy. A 60-year-old man was operated for tumor of the abdomen. He was diagnosed as leiomyosarcoma of the jejunum with disseminated peritoneal metastasis, but no liver metastasis and cirrhosis. A palliative resection of the jejunum was performed. Inflammatory fibroid polyp of jejunum is a very rare nonneoplastic lesion of gastrointestinal tract. We reported a 66-year-old male who presented with abdominal fullness, colicky pain, and vomiting for 4 days. Plain abdomen showed intestinal obstruction with dilated small bowel loops. The exploratory laparotomy was performed under the clinical impression of intussusception caused by small bowel tumor. The diagnosis of an inflammatory fibroid polyp causing jejunojejunal intussusception was confirmed after surgery.

An apparently unilateral cryptorchid stallion was referred to the clinic with a history of colic. In the course of laparotomy an ileus caused by strangulation of the small intestine was found and the horse was euthanized because of poor prognosis. During autopsy strictures and ectasia of the jejunum were found as well as hermaphroditism along with male phenotype. The frequency of cryptorchidism in the case of intersexuality is discussed.

A case of segmental lipomatosis of the jejunum producing intermittent intussusception is reported. Preoperative barium studies suggested the diagnosis. Segmental resection of the affected bowel gave complete relief from symptoms. Of the 19 previously reported cases of small-bowel lipomatosis, only one had isolated involvement of the jejunum.

Beside conventional procedures the hypopharyngeal and esophageal reconstruction using a free jejunum-transfer represents an additional method for primary reconstruction of the hypopharynx and esophagus. The results are described of a retrospective study of 142 patients with atresias of the jejunum, ileum and colon in the Netherlands. It is pointed out that pregnancy had often been complicated by polyhydramnios. This may lead to an early diagnosis in the prenatal period. Whenever a neonate presents with bilious vomiting or distension of the abdomen, closer examination for intestinal atresia should take place. The production of meconium does not rule out the diagnosis of intestinal atresia.
