[2 cases of toxocariasis (visceral larva migrans)].

BACKGROUND: Different epidemiological studies have demonstrated that specific anti-Toxocara antibodies are detected in the serum of a high percentage of the Spanish population. But very few clinical cases of visceral larva migrans are being confirmed. METHODS AND RESULTS: Two cases of visceral toxocarosis, in two sisters, are described. In the first, the prevailing clinic was swelling of joints and upper respiratory tract symptoms; and asthma and cutaneous allergic manifestations in the second patient. Both cases presented with an elevated blood eosinophil count, high levels of total IgE and …

Cutaneous larva migrans due to Pelodera strongyloides.

A twenty-year-old landscape worker was evaluated for a widespread cutaneous eruption consisting of papules, pustules, and burrows. Cutaneous scrapings revealed live and dead larvae of a free-living soil nematode, Pelodera strongyloides. This is the third instance of human dermatitis due to this organism, and the first reported in an adult host.

Simultaneous Larva Migrans and Larva Currens Caused by Strongyloides stercoralis: A Case Report.

Strongyloidiasis is an infectious disease caused by the Strongyloides stercoralis larvae, which penetrate the skin, go through the lymphatic circulation, and migrate to the lungs before reaching the intestines. They mature and may cause cutaneous strongyloidiasis, known as larva currens because of the quick migratory rate of the larva. The authors describe a case in which the larvae did not follow their natural lymph route, and after penetrating into the intertriginous area, they migrated to the dermis, developing larva migrans in the early phase, and later associated with the typical lesions …

Case Image: Cutaneous Larva Migrans Diagnosed via Teledermatology.

Cutaneous larva migrans is a self-limiting parasitic dermatosis that typically presents as itchy, serpiginous, migrating skin track and can be diagnosed clinically. This case demonstrates successful diagnosis and treatment through teledermatology, without laboratory or histopathological testing. Recognizing its characteristic appearance is important for prompt diagnosis and effective remote dermatologic care.

Hepatic visceral larva migrans: A radiological case report.

Visceral larva migrans (VLM) occurs due to migration of the second stage of larvae of nematodes through human viscera. It is an underdiagnosed entity which commonly affects the liver as eosinophilic abscesses and appears as coalescing, conglomerated cavities on imaging. This case report details the sonographic and CT features of an 8 year old female patient with right upper quadrant pain and peripheral eosinophilia on laboratory reports, diagnosed as a case of VLM on biopsy. Imaging of VLM shows overlap with neoplastic lesions and other infective pathologies hence this case aims to highlight t…
