Solid-state laser (266 nm) as an alternative to ArF excimer laser (193 nm) for corneal reshaping: Comparative numerical study of the thermal effect.

Laser corneal reshaping is a safe and effective technique utilized to treat common vision disorders. An advanced laser delivery system equipped with a pulsed UV laser with specific parameters is used to ablate parts of the cornea surface to correct the existing refractive error. The argon fluoride (ArF) excimer pulsed gas laser at 193 nm is the most employed type in the commercial devices for such treatments. This laser is generated using a mixture of Argon, Fluorine, and a significant amount of Neon gases. However, due to the ongoing Russian-Ukraine war, the availability of Neon gas is curren

Diode Laser and Fractional Laser Innovations.

Laser technology continues to increase in popularity and expand treatment options for patients with common but challenging skin conditions including facial telangiectasias, facial aging, striae distensae, and acne scars. Facial telangiectasias have been estimated to occur in tens of millions of people worldwide. The 585-nm laser was the first to follow the principle of selective photothermolysis for the treatment of cutaneous vascular lesions, but it caused significant postoperative purpura. Newer diode lasers target superficial and deep telangiectasias without the side effects of the 585-nm l

Formation of highly toxic hydrogen cyanide upon ruby laser irradiation of the tattoo pigment phthalocyanine blue.

Since laser treatment of tattoos is the favored method for the removing of no longer wanted permanent skin paintings, analytical, biokinetics and toxicological data on the fragmentation pattern of commonly used pigments are urgently required for health safety reasons. Applying dynamic headspace-gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detection (DHS-GC/MS) and comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography coupled to time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GCxGC-ToF-MS), we identified 1,2-benzene dicarbonitrile, benzonitrile, benzene, and the poisonous gas hydrogen cyanide (HCN) as main fragment

Management of Lymphangioma Circumscriptum via Combined Laser Therapy in Pigmented Skin: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND Lymphangioma circumscriptum (LC) is a rare condition characterized by a lymphatic malformation primarily affecting the cutaneous region. Although surgical excision has historically been the first-line treatment, it may be associated with substantial complications and recurrence. This case report presents the first documented use of a simultaneous combination of erbium glass (1540 nm) and CO₂ (10 600 nm) lasers as a targeted therapeutic strategy for LC in a patient with a dark phototype. CASE REPORT A previously untreated 13-year-old Asian girl presented with a 5-month history of mul

Energy-based device innovations including laser and non-laser therapies in hidradenitis suppurativa treatment.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that is often difficult to treat. When initial medical treatments fail, surgical interventions, including laser and non-laser procedures, may be considered. This review examines recent studies investigating the effectiveness of these procedures, focusing on publications since March 2019. The review included English-language case reports, studies, and clinical trials sourced from PubMed using search terms such as "hidradenitis suppurativa," "Nd: YAG," "photodynamic therapy," "intense pulsed light," "alexandrite," "diode," "C

Management of acne scarring, part I: a comparative review of laser surgical approaches.

Acne scarring is the result of a deviation in the orderly pattern of healing and can have profound psychosocial implications for patients. While the most effective means of addressing acne scarring is to prevent its formation through good acne control, there are a number of therapeutic interventions that improve the appearance of acne scars. Many of these procedural modalities have flaws and are limited by operator skill and experience. Laser scar revision, on the other hand, is a precise, well tolerated procedure with clinically demonstrable efficacy and minimal adverse effects that may be us

Laser Treatment of Hypertrophic Scar in a Porcine Model Induces Change to Epidermal Histoarchitecture That Correlates to Improved Epidermal Barrier Function.

Mechanisms and timing of hypertrophic scar (HTS) improvement with laser therapy are incompletely understood. Epidermal keratinocytes influence HTS through paracrine signaling, yet they are understudied compared to fibroblasts. It was hypothesized that fractional ablative CO2 laser scar revision (FLSR) would change the fibrotic histoarchitecture of the epidermis in HTS. Duroc pigs (n = 4 FLSR and n = 4 controls) were injured and allowed to form HTS. HTS and normal skin (NS) were assessed weekly by noninvasive skin probes measuring trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) and biopsy collection. There w

The Effectiveness of Early Combined CO2 Ablative Fractional Laser and 595-nm Pulsed Dye Laser Treatment After Scar Revision.

Scars are significant complications of wound healing and associated with negative physical, psychological, and cosmetic effects. Scar revision and laser treatment have been used over the past century to improve many different types of scars. Here, we evaluated the effectiveness of early combined carbon dioxide ablative fractional laser (AFL) and pulsed dye laser (PDL) treatment after scar revision. Fourteen patients who underwent scar revision were enrolled. All patients were treated with both a 10,600-nm AFL and a 595-nm PDL commencing 2 weeks after scar revision and continuing at 4-week inte

[The research progress of CO(2) laser in the treatment of oral lichen planus].

Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a common oral mucosal disease. The etiology of OLP is not clear. The treatment of OLP is difficult as some of the OLP patients have little effects to the conventional mucosal treatments. In recent years, laser therapy has been adopted to treat patients with OLP. The CO(2) laser therapy has drawn much attention of doctors and scholars because of its advantages in treating the OLP. This review article mainly discusses the principle, effects and some state-of-the-art progresses in OLP treatment using CO(2) laser.
