Breast MRI findings after modified radical mastectomy and transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous flap in patients with breast cancer.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the MRI findings in breast cancer patients who had undergone a modified radical mastectomy (MRM) and a transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous (TRAM) flap. MATERIALS AND METHODS: MRI was performed on 20 patients who had been diagnosed with breast cancer and had undergone an MRM and TRAM flap. The results were examined in terms of MRI's ability to detect the flap and assess possible postoperative changes and recurrence. In addition, MRI images of the opposite breast were analyzed. Follow-up examinations were carried out on 11 patients, and all changes were assessed. RESU

Comparing the Analgesic Efficacy of the Serratus-Intercostal Plane Block With Conventional Pharmacological Treatment in Patients Following Radical Mastectomy.

INTRODUCTION: Postoperative pain following radical mastectomy is common and can significantly impair recovery and quality of life. Regional anesthesia through the serratus-intercostal plane block (BRILMA) has been proposed as an effective strategy for pain control. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to compare the analgesic efficacy of BRILMA versus conventional pharmacological treatment in patients undergoing radical mastectomy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective, observational cohort study with two comparative groups was conducted to evaluate the analgesic effectiveness of BRILMA versus conventi

Gastric metastasis from hormone receptor-positive breast cancer ten years after radical mastectomy: a case report and literature review.

Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women, whereas gastrointestinal metastasis is uncommon and gastric involvement is particularly rare. We report a 59-year-old woman who presented with epigastric discomfort and dysphagia 10 years after surgery and postoperative chemotherapy for right breast cancer. Gastroscopy and histopathological examination with immunohistochemistry confirmed hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative metastatic breast carcinoma involving the stomach, and staging evaluation also revealed multiple bone metastases. Because the clinical manifestations closely mimi

[Simultaneous coronary artery bypass grafting on the beating heart without assisted circulation and radical modified Patey mastectomy--case report].

A case of 53-year-old female with unstable angina pectoris and primary right breast cancer is presented. Simultaneous operation including coronary artery bypass grafting and modified radical mastectomy was performed. On the beating heart coronary anastomoses were done without cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) through median sternotomy (OPCABG). Immediately after OPCABG cancer operation was performed under stable hemodynamics without any bleeding tendency. There were neither perioperative nor postoperative complications noticed. Three months after operation adjuvant local radiotherapy was started. C

Node-negative breast cancer treated by modified radical mastectomy without adjuvant therapies: variables associated with disease recurrence and survivorship.

The present study attempts to identify poor prognosis subgroups of women with node-negative breast cancer that might benefit from systemic adjuvant therapy. The cases were collected through a cooperative effort of 57 surgeons at eight hospitals in the Detroit area and coordinated by the Michigan Cancer Foundation where data collection and analyses were completed. The primary treatment of all patients was a modified radical mastectomy. Of the 1,078 cases accessioned between October 1975 and April 1983, 537 were found to have no microscopic lymph node involvement and 462 of these cases received

The effect of perioperative lidocaine during modified radical mastectomy on postoperative pain and immune response: A randomized clinical trial.

PURPOSE: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. Surgical resection of the breast mass could induce an inflammatory response, which increases cytokines, such as interleukin IL beta-1 and IL-6. These mediators lead to peripheral and central sensitization and induce hyperalgesia. In this study, we hypothesized that perioperative lidocaine infusion could not only reduce serum interleukin levels but also reduce postoperative pain severity. METHODS: In this randomized clinical trial, 90 women who were candidates for elective mastectomy under general anesthesia were enrolled and random

Recurrent Granulomatous Mastitis in the Contralateral Breast Following Radical Mastectomy for Breast Cancer: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Granulomatous mastitis (GM) is a rare, chronic, benign inflammatory breast disease with an unknown etiology, primarily affecting young women. It is often characterized by the presence of a painful mass, skin changes, and persistent inflammation, which can clinically resemble breast cancer. Due to the absence of specific imaging signatures and a poorly understood pathogenic mechanism, diagnosis is primarily achieved through exclusion. We present the case of a 31-year-old woman who, three years after undergoing a radical mastectomy for triple-negative breast cancer in her right breast, was diagn

Modified radical mastectomy sparing one or both pectoral muscles in the treatment of breast cancer: intra and postoperative complications.

CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE: Modified radical mastectomy is widely utilized in breast cancer treatment. However, no prospective comparison has yet been made between the Madden technique (preservation of the pectoralis minor muscle) and the Patey technique (resection of this muscle). The aim of this work was to compare these two modified radical mastectomy techniques, by analyzing their degrees of difficulty and complications. DESIGN AND SETTING: Randomized trial at the Breast Unit of Hospital Araújo Jorge, Goiás; and Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade Federal de Goiás. METHODS: 430 patients wit

[The range of removing fatty tissue and lymph nodes by a modified radical mastectomy with preservation of the major and minor pectoral muscles].

Thirty five patients with mammary carcinoma were selected and completeness of lymph node dissection in modified radical mastectomy (MRM) was evaluated by two step procedures, i.e., MRM was performed at the first step and then standard radical mastectomy was added immediately following the first step. Complete axillary dissection was possible in all the cases with MRM, however, in some cases, excision of the other areas was insufficient, especially in an obese patient. There were number of cases in which the number of subclavicular lymph nodes and Halsted lymph nodes felt by palpation during th

Correlation between perioperative parecoxib use and postoperative acute kidney injury in patients undergoing radical mastectomy: a retrospective cohort analysis.

BACKGROUND: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are among the most widely prescribed drugs worldwide. However, the effect of NSAIDS on postoperative renal function is still unclear. Few studies have assessed the effects of parecoxib on renal function. Our aim is to investigate a correlation between parecoxib and the presence or absence of AKI postoperatively after a breast cancer surgery operation. METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study that we performed on our hospitalized database. From January 2012 to August 2021, 3542 female patients undergoing radical mastectomy were e
