Long-term outcomes of latissimus dorsi transfer for irreparable rotator cuff tears.

PURPOSE: The primary objective of this retrospective study was to validate electrophysiological results of latissimus dorsi tendon transfer … e external rotation from 12° to 24°. The ultrasound found 12 healed tendons and two ruptures at the myotendinous junction. CONCLUSION: Electrical activity in abduction and external rotation testifies that the LDT transfer acts as an active muscle transfer and acts not only a muscle tenodesis that covers the humeral head.

LOXL3 Function Beyond Amino Oxidase and Role in Pathologies, Including Cancer.

Lysyl oxidase like 3 (LOXL3) is a copper-dependent amine oxidase responsible for the crosslinking of collagen and elastin in the extracellul … ionally, various novel roles have been described for LOXL3, such as the oxidation of fibronectin in myotendinous junction formation, and of deacetylation and deacetylimination activities of STAT3 to control of inflammatory response. In tumors, three distinct roles were described: (1) LOXL3 interacts with SNAIL and contributes to proliferation and metastasis by inducing …

Expression of the 43 kDa dystrophin-associated glycoprotein in human neuromuscular disease.

The expression of the 43 kDa dystrophin-associated glycoprotein (43DAG) has been studied using immunohistochemical labelling with a monoclonal antibody, MANDAG-1, and compared with immunolabelling for dystrophin and the dystrophin-related protein, utrophin, in normal muscle and in muscle from 50 patients with neuromuscular disease. 43DAG and dystrophin were expressed in vascular smooth muscle and at the sarcolemma of normal muscle fibres, with increased labelling at neuromuscular and myotendinous junctions. 43DAG expression was reduced in Duchenne and Becker dystrophies with patchy labelling, …

High-resolution ultrasound and MRI in the evaluation of pectoralis major injuries.

The pectoralis major muscle is the largest muscle of the anterior chest wall. The primary function of the muscle is to adduct and internally … further expanded to complete intra-tendinous tears, defined as the mid-tendon substance between the myotendinous junction and humeral insertion, and those located at the sternal head/posterior lamina. This paper reviews normal pectoralis major anatomy and the spectrum of injury on magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound. The importance of regional anatomical landmark …

Histological features of the distal insertion of the middle glenohumeral ligament on the subscapularis tendon.

BACKGROUND: The middle glenohumeral ligament (MGHL) is the least well characterized glenohumeral ligament and its distal insertion remains m … ndon. The junction was in some cases in the subscapularis tendon and in others in the subscapularis myotendinous junction. CONCLUSION: The anatomically exceptional ligament-to-tendon distal insertion of the MGHL into the subscapularis was histologically confirmed in all. These findings support recent results indicating that the MGHL does not insert onto the humerus bu …

Efficacy of a Novel Electroconductive Matrix To Treat Muscle Atrophy and Fat Accumulation in Chronic Massive Rotator Cuff Tears of the Shoulder.

The high retear rate after a successful repair of the rotator cuff (RC) is a major clinical challenge. Muscle atrophy and fat accumulation o … n a rat model of chronic massive full-thickness RCTs (MRCTs). The matrices were transplanted on the myotendinous junction to the belly of the supraspinatus and infraspinatus muscles at 16 weeks after MRCTs. Triceps surae muscle-tendon unit mechanical property changes during 10 minutes of streching.

OBJECTIVE: To verify the effect of 10-min static stretching on the triceps surae mechanical properties. DESIGN: Quasi-experimental one-group pre test-post test study compared the time points of before, after, and minute by minute of one session of triceps surae passive static stretching. METHODS: 15 participants performed a 10-min plantar flexor passive static stretching on the isokinetic dynamometer. We evaluated passive torque and myotendinous junction (MTJ) displacement before, minute by minute, and after the intervention. In contrast, we evaluated the range of motion (ROM), passive torqu…

Lesions of the lateral pterygoid muscle-an overestimated reason for temporomandibular dysfunction: a 3T magnetic resonance imaging study.

The aim of this study was to examine the lateral pterygoid muscle (LPM) parenchyma, myotendinous junction, and tendon in temporomandibular disorder (TMD) patients using 3T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Results were compared with findings reported in the literature, in which the LPM has been attributed a major role in triggering TMD. 3T MRI was used for temporomandibular joint (TMJ) imaging. The MRI images of 63 patients were analysed for muscle contracture and atrophy, tendon rupture, signal alterations of the tendon, tendon contrast enhancement, and peritendinous fluid collection. Descrip…

Developmental mechanism of muscle-tendon-bone complex in the fetal soft palate.

OBJECTIVE: This study was performed to investigate how the palatine aponeurosis, medial pterygoid process (MPP) of the sphenoid bone, and tensor veli palatini (TVP) muscle form the pulley: muscle-tendon-bone complex. DESIGN: Mice at embryonic day (ED) 14-17 were used as sample in this study. Azan staining was performed to observe the morphology, and immunohistochemical staining of desmin was performed to closely observe the development of the myotendinous junction. To confirm the bone formation process, immunohistochemical staining of type II collagen (col II), tartrate-resistant acid phospha…

Tibialis anterior and extensor digitorum longus muscle-tendon units stretched to 30% of failure force suffered functional injury as their contractile ability decreased after stretching. Perivascular Adductor Longus muscle injury: Ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance Imaging findings.

BACKGROUND: Muscle injuries affecting the Adductor Longus are not all localised at the level of the proximal myotendinous junction and enthesis. Thus, the main purpose of this article was to raise awareness of the imaging features of the Perivascular Adductor Longus muscle injury, which currently remains widely under-recognised. METHODS: The ultrasound (US) and Magnetic Resonance imaging (MRI) images of five professional football players were retrospectively reassessed to identify distinctive imaging details of the Perivascular Adductor Longus muscle injury. Complementary information regardin…

Tenascin-C in the pathobiology and healing process of musculoskeletal tissue injury.

Tenascin-C (TN-C) is a hexabrachion-shaped extracellular matrix (ECM) protein which has very restricted expression in normal musculoskeletal tissues, but is expressed in large quantities in these tissues during embryogenesis as well as during regenerative and healing processes. TN-C is an elastic protein which has a number of binding sites for other extracellular matrix proteins as well as for cell membrane adhesion receptors. In addition, it can be stretched to several times its resting length, the ability of which is attributed to the stretch-induced unfolding of its fibronectin type III dom
