Although gastric juvenile polyposis (GJP) often coexists with gastric cancer, a preoperative accurate diagnosis is still difficult to obtain. A 70-year-old woman was referred for epigastralgia and anemia. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy with a conventional endoscope showed numerous gastric polyps with no cancerous findings. Magnifying endoscopy with narrow-band imaging (M-NBI) showed cancerous findings, and a target biopsy revealed adenocarcinoma. Histopathological findings after endoscopic resection confirmed a diagnosis of juvenile polyposis with intramucosal adenocarcinoma. Genetic analyses reve

(1) Background: Contact Endoscopy (CE) and Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) are optical imaging modalities that can provide enhanced and magnified visualization of the superficial vascular networks in the laryngeal mucosa. The similarity of vascular structures between benign and malignant lesions causes a challenge in the visual assessment of CE-NBI images. The main objective of this study is to use Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (DCNN) for the automatic classification of CE-NBI images into benign and malignant groups with minimal human intervention. (2) Methods: A pretrained Res-Net50 model comb…

A 75-year-old woman presented with minor hemoptysis. Past history included atrial fibrillation and rheumatic mitral stenosis. Bronchoscopy revealed a striking abnormality of widespread dilated mucosal and submucosal vessels. Initially the concern was whether there was widespread endobronchial malignancy; however, narrow band imaging (NBI) demonstrated the symmetrical uniform nature of the vessels. In addition, there was a focal area of in situ carcinoma with classic NBI features of malignancy. Following external-beam radiation therapy, NBI features had dramatically changed in the treated area …

BACKGROUND: We evaluated the effectiveness of narrow band imaging (NBI) in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) after treatment.
METHODS: In all, 101 consecutive OSCC patients underwent NBI examination for posttreatment follow-up. Four patients had local recurrence. Twenty-six second primary malignancies were found in 18 patients; 6 patients (33%) had more than 1 lesion. Seventeen lesions (65%) were carcinoma in situ or severe dysplasia. Most of them occurred in the oral cavity (77%).
RESULTS: A higher incidence (18% vs 9%, p = .037) and less-advanced stage (4% vs 37%, p = .0005…

PURPOSE: Early detection of mucosal neoplastic lesions is crucial for a patient's prognosis. This has led to the development of effective optical endoscopic diagnostic methods such as narrow band imaging (NBI) and autofluorescence (AFI). Independent of each other, both of these methods were proven useful in the detection of mucosal neoplasias. There are limited reported data comparing both methods for oropharyngeal cancer diagnostics. The aim of the study was to compare NBI and AFI endoscopic visualization of signs in identifying tonsillar squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and assessing its extent…

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS: Conventional colonoscopy can result in unnecessary biopsy or endoscopic resection due to its inability to distinguish adenomas from hyperplastic polyps. This study therefore evaluated the efficacy of high-resolution endoscopy (HRE), autofluorescence imaging (AFI), and narrow-band imaging (NBI) in discriminating colon adenoma from hyperplastic polyps.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: This was a prospective multicenter study in patients undergoing AFI and NBI examinations. HRE, AFI, and NBI images were classified into two groups based on morphological characteristics, the predom

A series of studies about the potential usefulness of magnifying endoscopy with narrow-band imaging (NBI) for the diagnosis of gastric and colonic lesion is reviewed. Concerning the magnifying NBI appearances of gastric lesions, a light blue crest is a highly accurate sign of the presence of histological intestinal metaplasia. Also, the degree of irregularity of the mucosal and vascular pattern is correlated with the histological severity of Helicobacter pylori-associated chronic gastritis. According to the 'VS classification', an irregular microvascular pattern and/or an irregular microsurfac

INTRODUCTION: Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) is an endoscopic optical imaging enhancement technology that improves the contrast of mucosal surface texture and enhances visualization of mucosal and submucosal vasculature. Due to its properties, it can visualize suspected malignant or precancerous lesions earlier than conventional white light endoscopy. The aim of this study was to analyze the benefit of NBI in visualization of precancerous and malignant lesions in preoperative and intraoperative diagnostics and correlation with histopathologic results.
METHODS: A total of 589 patients with suspicio…

BACKGROUND: Atrophic gastritis (AG) is a gastric precancerous condition, and objective delineation of lesion extent may support risk assessment, targeted biopsy, and standardized endoscopic documentation. Magnifying endoscopy with narrow-band imaging (ME-NBI) highlights mucosal and microvascular patterns, but automated segmentation remains difficult because AG lesions often show weak, gradual, and heterogeneous boundaries.
METHODS: We conducted a single-center retrospective study including 137 ME-NBI images of AG and 87 images of intestinal metaplasia (IM) from 25 subjects. Expert consensus m

BACKGROUND: Japanese narrow band imaging expert team (JNET) classification has a diagnostic accuracy above 90% in differentiating neoplastic from non-neoplastic colonic polyps as well as estimating the depth of invasion in colorectal cancer. However, its validation outside Japan is limited to expert centers and requires magnifying endoscopes.
AIMS AND METHODS: This study aimed at validating the JNET classification prospectively in a real-world setting in India using magnifying endoscopes with dual focus. We analyzed consecutive patients with colonic polyps detected via these endoscopes. The J…

Background Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is one of the most prevalent causes of chronic gastritis that can lead to gastric cancer if left untreated. Currently, endoscopy and histology are the gold standard tests for the diagnosis of H. pylori gastritis. Recently, studies have shown the utility of narrow-band imaging (NBI) in predicting H. pylori gastritis. Therefore, we aimed to determine the diagnostic accuracy of NBI in predicting H. pylori gastritis in patients with dyspepsia. Methodology After obtaining approval from the Ethical Review Committee, Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplant
