Is Mugwort pollenosis frequent among children in North of France? In North of France where no ragweed grows, mugwort (artemisia) is after grasses and plantago, the third pollenosis in children. The relationship between rhinitis and chronic sinusitis is close and complex and may perhaps show many points of view, anatomical and physiological, epidemiological (by comparing the prevalence of an ailment in carriers of another ailment), experimental (by making nasal allergen provocation tests and studying the sinus anomalies induced) and physiopathological (by phenotyping and comparison of the inflammation present with one another and other ailments). Sensitization to Quercus ilex (holm oak) was studied in 760 patients with clinically suspected sensitization to aeroallergens. Prick tests with commercial extracts of Q. ilex proved positive in 27 patients; none were monosensitive. Nasal and conjunctival provocation tests and specific IgE (RAST) performed with Q. ilex extracts in these patients were negative in all but one patient, who exhibited specific IgE titer (by RAST) of 7 PRU/ml (class 3). We conclude that Q. ilex pollen, though obtained in considerable quantities by our collector, does not cause allergies in our area.

Inhalation and nasal aspirin challenge has been investigated in asthma patients with co-existing rhinitis. Eight of 39 asthma patients were diagnosed as aspirin-sensitive on the basis of inhalation challenge. Seven aspirin-sensitive asthmatics were subjected to nasal aspirin provocation.
