A seven-year-old boy with neurofibromatosis who developed scalp psoriasis is presented. The clinical evaluation of the patient revealed multiple café au lait spots, axillary freckling, bilateral Lisch nodules and a psoriatic plaque on his scalp. Though there is no known direct relationship between neurofibromatosis and psoriasis, one is suggested in this patient, possibly related to a common genetic defect.

Acoustic schwannoma is the most common tumor of the cerebellopontine angle in adults and is rarely found in children without neurofibromatosis. In the literature there are 18 children under the age of 16 with such tumor. Two female patients with age of 9 and 15 years old with acoustic schwannoma without neurofibromatosis are related. Progressive deafness followed by signs and symptoms of a posterior fossa tumor were the initial complaint of both, as well as of the other related cases and in adulthood.

A 16-year-old girl had a three-year history of many café au lait spots and freckles in a dermatomal distribution. The diagnosis of segmental neurofibromatosis (NF-5) was made on the basis of the clinical features, distribution of the lesions, and absence of systemic involvement. Only a few cases in the literature describe NF-5 with only macular lesions. An accurate clinical examination is important to identify this unusual presentation.

BACKGROUND: The neurofibromatoses (NF) are genetic disorders. Increased risks of some cancers in people with NF are well recognised, but there is no comprehensive enumeration of the risks across the whole range of site-specific cancers. Our aim was to provide this.
METHODS: A linked data set of hospital admissions and deaths in England was used to compare rates of tumours in an NF cohort with rates in a comparison cohort, with results expressed as rate ratios (RR).
RESULTS: The RR for all cancers combined, in people with both types of NF combined, was 4.3 (95% confidence interval (CI): 4.0-4…

Neurofibromatosis (NF) presents a significant clinical challenge due to its complex genetic basis, diverse clinical manifestation, and substantial impact on a patient's quality of life (QoL). This paper explores the multifaceted approach required to manage NF in Canada, emphasizing the integration of advanced diagnostic tools, targeted treatments, and comprehensive support systems. Healthcare providers, researchers, patient advocacy groups, and policymakers must collaborate to ensure NF patients receive the best possible care and support. This disease poses devastating consequences to families

Up to 40% of rare disorders (RD) present facial dysmorphologies, and visual assessment is commonly used for clinical diagnosis. Quantitative approaches are more objective, but mostly rely on European descent populations, disregarding diverse population ancestry. Here, we assessed the facial phenotypes of Down (DS), Morquio (MS), Noonan (NS) and Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) syndromes in a Latino-American population, recording the coordinates of 18 landmarks in 2D images from 79 controls and 51 patients. We quantified facial differences using Euclidean Distance Matrix Analysis, and assessed th

Schwannomatosis is a rare tumor predisposition syndrome that causes multiple schwannomas. Germline loss-of-function (LoF) LZTR1 variants were only recently identified as disease-causing, so relatively few variants have been identified in patients. In addition, many LoF variants exist in Genome Aggregation Database (gnomAD) in people who do not have clinical symptoms of schwannomatosis. These factors, and the incomplete penetrance seen in this condition, hinder definitive interpretation of the clinical significance of novel LoF variants identified in schwannomatosis patients. We collated publis

BACKGROUND: Schwannomatosis is a relatively rare disorder and is related to neurofibromatosis type 2. Although there is clinical overlap between schwannomatosis and neurofibromatosis type 2, these diseases have to be regarded as separate entities due to the genetic origin and course of the disease.
METHODS: A comprehensive review of the literature was conducted for relevant studies using Pubmed and Cochrane databases to discuss the epidemiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic criteria, pathological and imaging features, treatment and genetics of schwannomatosis.
RESULTS: Germline mutation

Segmental neurofibromatosis (NF5) is a rare variant of neurofibromatosis. To our knowledge, there have been few reports of cases presenting later in life. The recognition of NF5 is important, as there have been reports of paraneoplastic manifestations and transmission to offspring. Here we present the case of a patient who presented with NF5 first appearing in her mid-50s. This case illustrates the subtle nature of NF5, which often leads to misdiagnosis.

Segmental neurofibromatosis is a rare form of the disease characterized by the unilateral location of cutaneous neurofibromas and café au lait spots along one or several dermatomes. It corresponds to the fifth type in Riccardi's classification. We report the 83rd case of segmental neurofibromatosis discovered by chance in an 83-year old woman presenting with isolated cutaneous neurofibromas situated on the right T10-L1 dermatomes. Type five neurofibromatosis is divided into four subgroups according to the uni- or bilateral site of the lesions, the presence or absence of a family history and th
