Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare congenital clinical syndrome characterized by venous malformations in multiple organs, including the skin, gastrointestinal tract, liver, and lungs. In June 2022, Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University admitted a rare case of BRBNS. The patient was hospitalized due to abdominal distension and a history of recurrent hematochezia. Abdominal imaging revealed vascular lesions in the liver and intestines, while colonoscopy demonstrated multiple blue vascular tumors. After symptomatic treatment and sirolimus therapy, the patient's symptom

BACKGROUND: Blue nevi are a group of congenital and acquired dermal melanocytoses characterized by a blue-gray appearance on the skin. The common blue nevus and cellular blue nevus are the most common subtypes. Patch-type blue nevus is rather rare.
OBSERVATIONS: We describe a 77-year-old Chinese male with a 6 × 8-cm non-palpable blue patch overlaid by a depigmented patch on the back of the left scalp. Histological examination of the blue-gray patch showed numerous spindled and elongated bipolar dendritic melanocytes in the upper reticular dermis and an absence of epidermal melanocytes. Immuno

BACKGROUND: Blue nevi that arise from the Müllerian tract are rare melanocytic lesions. Several histopathologic variants of cellular blue nevi have been described. The angiomatoid variant is characterized by a vascular component, and is considered to be a rare variant. Few studies have explored the influence of pregnancy on melanocytic lesions.
CASE: A 29-year-old woman was presented with a pigmented vaginal lesion that increased gradually during pregnancy. A full term gynecologic examination showed a tumor mass protruding into the vaginal canal. The mass was resected during cesarean-section

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare disorder characterized by venous malformations usually affecting the skin and the gastrointestinal tract. These skin haemangiomas are present at birth and deteriorate as the body grows, causing primarily cosmetic problems. The haemangiomas of the gastrointestinal tract may appear later in life and may bleed, causing chronic anaemia, or may present with severe complications such as rupture, intestinal torsion, and intussusception. Other organs may also be involved. This article describes a 13-year-old boy with multiple haemangiomas of the skin,

A neoplasm associated with a pilonidal sinus (PS) is a rare occurrence in the course of a common disease. Early detection is imperative. To our knowledge, pilonidal disease associated with a cellular blue nevus (CBN) has not been reported. There is a 10% diagnostic error rate with this last lesion. Here we report the case of a 19-year-old man with recurrent sacrococcygeal PS infection associated with an indurated dome-shaped blue-black nodule 1.7 cm in diameter. Clinical diagnosis of the nodule was uncertain suggesting a pigmentary or a vascular tumor. A complete resection of the two lesions w

INTRODUCTION: Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare congenital systemic angiodysplasia with multiple vascular malformations in the skin, gastrointestinal tract and, less often, in other internal organs and the brain.
CASE REPORT: A 36-year-old man with past history of BRBNS was admitted to our hospital for progressive dyspnea and fatigue. Primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH) was diagnosed. He then developed acute abdominal pain and dyspnea, dying in a few hours due to sudden cardiac arrest. Postmortem examination demonstrated angiomatous lesions located in the skin, small bowel, h

Cutis verticis gyrata is a rare skin condition characterized by swelling of scalp resembling the surface of the brain. Various conditions, like cerebriform intradermal nevus (CIN), may give rise to this clinical entity. Moreover, its association with cellular blue nevus is extremely rare and has not been reported so far. Here, we report a 28-year-old male with a huge cerebriform swelling covering the occipital lobe along with multiple nodules all over the body. Histology of the scalp swelling showed solitary or clusters of nevus cells in the dermis and from the body lesions showed features of

Involvement of lymph nodes by benign melanocytic neoplasms is a readily accepted concept in the pathology literature. However, little is known or has been discussed in the literature regarding the concept of malignant transformation of benign melanocytic tumors within lymph nodes. In this report, we describe a 49-year-old woman with a cellular blue nevus on the buttock with no evidence of high-grade atypia or malignancy on both the biopsy and re-excision. She later presented with a palpable lymph node in the left inguinal region. Biopsy of the lymph node showed involvement of the lymph node ca

Background and Clinical Significance: Osteonevus of Nanta is a rare histological phenomenon characterized by bone formation within a benign melanocytic nevus, most commonly in intradermal nevi of the head and neck. Although osteonevus of Nanta is rare, ossification in a cellular blue nevus is even more uncommon. To date, only one case of a cellular blue nevus with ossification has been documented. This case report adds to the limited literature and emphasizes the clinical importance of recognizing this rare phenomenon, as osteonevus of Nanta has been potentially associated with malignant melan

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare condition characterised by vascular malformations mostly of the skin and gastrointestinal tract and less commonly of the central nervous system, liver, thyroid, spleen and lungs. We report a rare case of BRBNS in a patient on anticoagulation who presented with gastrointestinal bleeding and no cutaneous or other organ involvement. We discuss the difficulty in balancing bleeding and clotting risks in this patient who developed two episodes of venous thromboembolism while off anticoagulation to minimise gastrointestinal bleeding. We also highlight

Cellular blue nevus is an uncommon neoplasm in the conjunctiva. Here we present an unusual case of a cellular blue nevus that clinically resembled conjunctival melanoma. A 29-year-old Chinese male was found to have a giant pigmented lesion of the conjunctiva around the limbal area of right eye from birth. Excisional biopsy with no-touch technique, lamellar corneal transplantation, amniotic membrane transplantation and adjuvant cryotherapy were performed. Histopathology revealed a nodular, well-defined tumor, which was composed of heavily pigmented dendritic cells and less pigmented spindle cel

A 43-year-old Japanese man presented with a 13-year history of a grayish macule measuring 7 cm in diameter with sparse hairs on the vertex. Histopathological examination demonstrated two types of melanocytes, spindle-shaped and ovoid cells, with abundant melanin aggregated around the upper part of the pilosebaceous apparatus. Fibrous, thick collagen bundles were also seen surrounding the upper part of the small hair follicles. There was no infiltration of melanocytes or lymphocytes in the lower dermis or adipose tissue. Based on these findings, a diagnosis of blue nevus, cellular type, was mad

Oral common blue nevus is an asymptomatic, benign, rare, pigmented lesion and sometimes clinically indistinguishable from other pigmented lesions such as the cellular blue nevus or early-stage malignant melanoma. Since it shows clinical similarities with a malignant lesion and with cellular blue nevus that can itself suffer malignant transformation, the decisive diagnosis is crucial for adequate treatment, follow-up, and prognosis. Diagnosis confirmation is given by histological analysis, the reason why most oral pigmented lesions are excised. The following case presents an asymptomatic oral p

Agminated blue nevus (ABN) is a melanocytic nevus rarely mentioned in the literature and not well known. The term agminated is used when many blue nevi are clustered together in a sharply demarcated area ≤10 cm. Specific dermatoscopic features have not currently been clearly defined. We describe two cases of ABN and provide a review of the literature, reporting the main points in order to facilitate the diagnosis of this rare entity.
