A National Survey of Contracts, Compensation, and Workplace Culture Among Junior Surgical Oncologists.

BACKGROUND: The transition from surgical training to independent practice is challenging, and little quantitative data exist to guide junior surgeons on contracts and compensation. Qualitative evidence suggests compensation model type may influence workplace dynamics and attrition, but this has not been formally examined. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional survey of Society of Surgical Oncology members in their first 8 years of practice was conducted in October-November 2025 (n = 221; response rate = 20.2%). Outcomes included contract and compensation characteristics, attrition risk, and

Oncologists' attitudes towards prophylaxis of cancer associated venous thromboembolism: A prospective, descriptive study.

INTRODUCTION: Cancer-associated venous thromboembolism creates a big burden on both patients and healthcare systems. Clinical guidelines have a consensus on the initiation of prophylactic treatment for hospitalised patients, however a debate still exists for ambulatory cancer patients. Therefore, this study aimed to identify attitudes and practices of medical oncologists on cancer-associated venous thromboembolism management. METHODS: An online survey consisting of 22 questions was developed by researchers in the view of previous studies and delivered to 100 medical oncologists registered to

Anagrelide for the treatment of essential thrombocythemia: a survey among European hematologists/oncologists.

Two hundred and fifty hematologists and oncologists (50 each from France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom) participated in this survey to assess the current management of essential thrombocythemia (ET), with particular reference to the use of anagrelide. Data were collected between October 9 and November 2, 2006 on 2000 patients with ET. Thirty-eight per cent of patients had been tested for the Janus kinase 2 (JAK2) mutation (JAK2V617F), of whom 54% tested positive. JAK2V617F mutation status was not influenced by age, gender or cardiovascular risk. Overall, 297 patients (14.9%) we

Use of comprehensive geriatric assessment among oncologists in Uruguay: perceptions, practices and barriers.

INTRODUCTION: Population ageing has increased the proportion of older adults with cancer, a group characterised by high comorbidity burden and marked clinical heterogeneity. Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) is recommended by international guidelines to identify vulnerabilities and guide safer, more personalised treatment decisions. However, its implementation remains limited, and there is scarce information about its use in Uruguay. OBJECTIVE: To describe perceptions, practices and barriers regarding the use of CGA among oncologists and trainees in Uruguay. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We

CAR T-cell therapy: A collaboration between authorized treatment centers and community oncologists.

With the approval of the first CAR T-cell products for hematological malignancies in 2017, these autologous cell therapies have changed the treatment paradigm for patients with relapsed or refractory (r/r) non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), who have a poor prognosis and few effective treatment options. Despite the demonstrated clinical benefit in patients with r/r diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, mantle cell lymphoma, and follicular lymphoma, many patients who are eligible for CAR T-cell therapies do not receive them or are treated with CAR T cells as a later line of therapy at advanced stages of disea

[Survey on oncologists-provided information on treatment-related infertility to breast cancer patients].

PURPOSE: Treatment-related infertility is an important issue facing breast cancer survivors of childbearing age. A previous study at the National Cancer Center Hospital between 2000 and 2004 analyzed 136 postoperative breast cancer patients under 40 years old, and found that only 7% of them had been provided with information on fertility-related issues by their treating physicians. However, the way in which information is shared may have changed, given the recent publication of national and international guidelines on fertility issues in cancer patients, and we hypothesized that there will be

Fertility preservation practices and gastrointestinal oncologist in Europe: a pan-European study.

INTRODUCTION: The rising incidence of early-onset gastrointestinal (GI) cancer has made the impact of treatments on fertility of high significance. While there is abundant evidence on oncofertility outcomes in breast cancer and hematological malignancies, data regarding these perspectives in GI cancers is lacking. We sought to evaluate current practices of fertility preservation (FP) among GI oncologists across Europe. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was distributed through the Gastrointestinal Tract Cancer Group (GITCG) of the EORTC network and affiliated cooperative groups and cancer cent
